Hey guys, I noticed a few issues with this card (possibly the drivers) so far that have been really bugging me out.

#1 The bottom screen flicker (that I seem to have resolved by changing the idle clock speed from 157 to 300) Is this driver related?

#2 Sometimes when dragging something vertically it will give a small hitch. Mostly noticeable in Skyrim while zoomed in with the bow. Constant stutter (more like pausing) while doing this, yet the game is buttery smooth.

#3 I'm also concerned that my card is running 8X instead of 16X due to having no where else to stick my Xonar STX (bottom PCIe slot) If I'm correct, the 3rd PCI 1x slot is WAY too close to the Windforce cooler (Gigabyte 7970) to even try.

4# Although I have seemed to temporarily fixed the bottom screen flicker, I still see an occasional (but rare) single middle of the screen line.

Gigabyte 7970 (Previous card was a XFX 5870)
Sabertooth P67
Corsair Modular Gold 850W
WD 1TB Black
OCZ Agility 2 90GB

Quick little bump/correction.

@#3 I tried to move my Xonar back to the PCI 1x slot just to see how much space would be left between the cooler and sound card and it wouldn't even fit :rolleyes:
 
1. driver zero core issue likely.

drivers are a mess atm.
If you ask me its hard to say if its a card that is bad or driver that sucks.
 
Thanks for the reply, Flopper. I don't have any artifacts in games, so I probably shouldn't stress over it. The main thing that bothered me the most is not being able to run the card at 16X.
 
I get #4 often when surfing. Maybe we'll get a fix at the end of the month with 12.3s
 
1. zero core stand by mode can cause issues.
2. flash youtube hardware acc in webbrowser can cause issues.
3. memory changing 2D/3D can cause issues.

Best to have a clean system and start up a game.
check with gpu-z or msi afterburner that the game runs 3D clocks.

IMO lot of common strange things with the 7900 series.
 
Hmm, I guess the "Zero Core standby mode" explains the occasional but rare full monitor flicker? (Only happens on the desktop, not games. Probably partially similar to the bottom screen flicker issue. Or at least I'd think)

Oddly annoying :) At least I did some research before sending the card back, that would of been a waste of my damn time and money.
 
hopefully AMD will iron out the last few niggles in the next release or 2, screen flicker is rather annoying.

forgot how you did that though.

Make a copy of the Profiles.xml and edit this:

Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6798&SUBSYS_254D1458&REV_00_4&80E7924&0&0008A">

<Property name="Want_1" value="137500" />

Original will be 15000

Open up CCC and set the new Profiles.xml as an active profile (With OverDrive enabled)

And then restart.


This completely removed the bottom flicker, but as I mentioned, I still have an occasional but rare full screen or middle screen flicker.
