7970 price drop?

looks like newegg is selling the sapphire 7970 oc for 450 (i think it was 480 previously) so either its on sale or hopefully prices are coming down
 
Damn, how are the 580s still selling for over £300 here in the uk, you could get a 7970 for just a bit more.

Do all nivida cards hold their value?
 
Why haven't the 580s dropped in price anywhere?
the way overpriced 7870 has similar performance at almost $100 cheaper.
 
Prices haven't dropped more on the 580 because nVidia hasn't done anything to make it happen. Margins are pretty thin on computer components. When you see a drop at retail, it's generally created by a rebate from the manufacturer.

Nvidia has stopped GTX 580 production. So it does not need to worry about GTX 580 stocks piling up. Whats left in the channel will be bought by Nvidia fanbois no matter what price it is. Nvidia knows that :D
 
Really tempted to buy one and CF it with my Sapphire HD7950 OC...

Would my PSU handle it?

I dont get why the GTX580 wont drop in price at all. Its damn near the same price as the much faster GTX670 and also $10 more than the basically faster 7950! I was eyeballing the 580 thinking it would drop down into the low $300's and be a good value pickup and a nice, affordable upgrade for my aging but still capable 5870. Still no luck.

If it keeps up like this, I might as well buy a pair of GTX460's for $280 or a pair of 6870's for $320 and call it a day.

HD 7870 at USD 319 (with mail in rebate). Push it to 1200 Mhz. You get GTX 580 performance with much lesser power consumption without the hassles of multi GPU setups like micro stuttering in comparison to HD 6870 / GTX 460 paired up. :D

Yeah thats true. I do seem to be reading a lot more about microstuttering these days. I still kinda want to go with dual video cards cause Ive got a Sabertooth motherboard and nice roomy 500R case. Seems like a wast just using one card. :D
