7970 for 4k?

I'm going to be setting up a system to demo native 4k resolution videos and stills.
I need it via hdmi, the current 1.4 spec is only 24fps so my primary concern is drivers.


Has anybody else tried this?

Reading indicates that the 7950 may actually be better suited to this task. Has anybody tried it on the 7950?
 
Considering that 4K displays are incredibly expensive right now, I don't think you're going to find anyone here that has tried it. This might be stretching it, but you might try the avsforums and see if someone there has a 4K display and a PC connected to it.

Yeah, I'm going through AVS and there is at least one person there who has done it, but he's using specialty equipment to do it with DP on hit projectors (which use 2xDL-DVI and has no framerate limitations)

For this system I need it via single hdmi so it can power the new 4k sony projector.
 
Might want to ask Kyle to contact AMD for you with this question since most of us would be in the dark on this one. Also ask the guys in our Displays subforum. NCX and the guys talk about 4K screens all the time there.

I just might do that.

I'm absorbing what I can from millionaires at AVSForum on this topic. The 7900 series *should* do it, it's just annoying to have to do it in the non-published HDMI standard.... may be the first time where the HDMI-cable type actually matters!
 
perhaps a DP to HDMI active adapter might work if you could find one that supports 4k.
 
Are you suggesting that those issues are with 4k?

lots of people use active adapers at regular resolutions with no HDCP/Handshake issues...

At 4k and, specifically, with the display device being used.
