7970 BF3 Performance Woes

don't see the need for the hostility. read the thread, he's been jumping through all the usual hoops trying to figure this out. he's not trolling, just looking to get this resolved.

Thank you Porter. Your input has most definitely been helpful and I appreciate that you have unlike many others actually taken the time to read the thread and not make judgements.

I don't understand why RC11 will not work for me but I guess that just adds on to the pile of oddness.

I'm at 4.8ghz on a 2600k. The card is at 1100/1500.
When I had a 7950 OCed to 1100/1575 I was able to run at Ultra preset, I did switch to custom to turn off FXAA and use an FXAA injector instead....vanilla FXAA is ugly, blurry and dull IMO.

I was very happy with the performance, my FPS never went below 40 which is acceptable to me.

A good test is Sharqi Peninsula, on top of the radio station looking out over the whole map...if you pulling 40 to 60 FPS there the you good IMO.

Also at the beginning of Strike at Karkand map (US side) looking into the city...anything around 50 FPS and your good to go, believe me I've been testing this game for months trying to get it perfect lol.

Hell...I have a 52% quit rate just messing around with BF3...OCing, trying different FXAA injectors.

This is the injector I use now with 4xMSAA, I do have a 680 now though....but remember my OCed 7950 running the game pretty darn good, hope this helps.

This game is a beast when using just one card, I had a pair of 6970s..and they didn't even cut for me.

Right now I am on 8.921.5 on plain vanilla windows 7 with all drivers installed, directx updated, and it seems to be MUCH better than what I was getting before. Screenshots coming soon.

That was the lowest I could get the FPS in the short try. Will mess with it more in a bit. was hovering mostly between 75 and 100

I've done this several times now. Fresh installs with 12.2, fresh install with 12.3 and fresh install with 12.4 beta. All drivers were installed (every driver), directx updated, all windows updates, no driver sweeper/atiman. It wasn't until later that I tried messing around each time with different drivers and may have used driver sweeper on some but again did ANOTHER clean format in between.

On the newest install I was just trying to eliminate Last7 as the issue, so I did a clean plain jane windows 7 install, installed RC11 and it would not boot. The drivers on the CD (in the exact same situation, all I did was restore before the driver install, boot back in and install 8.921.5) and it booted just fine. Likewise with 12.2/12.3/12.4.

I am asking for help because I have TRIED all the obvious and the results are not very good. I don't know why all of a sudden I am being newbized, but OF COURSE I installed the chipset drivers lol.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to come across like that. My bad bro. Glad you got it worked out!

No worries man, thanks! It's progress anyway. Still baffled by the RC11 issue but oh well.

Are you talking about the RC11 drivers not installing? I had the same problem. Downloaded the correct file and everything after a clean uninstall. Went through the install process and nothing ever showed up. It created the AMD driver folder and everything but CCC never showed up nor did the resolution change to 1080P. Baffled me as well.

No my computer will not boot if I install RC11, no idea why. Tried a clean format and installing RC11 same thing wouldn't boot (not even safe mode or VGA mode, reboots at windows logo). Had to do system restore.

2) You must install intel management interface engine.

You don't need this unless you are using any of the intel AMT stuff. SOO MUCH misinformation spread on the forums about this.

Sure it's nice to get rid of the ? in device manager but it wont affect anything.

So as I suspected back when this was on page #1, the problem was his crappy OS. Shoulda posted something but was busy that day

Like Ubuntu, OSX and Mint, there are plenty of operating systems out there that beat Windows in certain areas... just not when it comes to gaming, dude.

Lol. I don't know were to begin responding to this but ill just go with:

Last7 = lightly modified Windows 7, just tweaks and such still 100% windows.

The problem was not the os. I have since gone back to last7 with the old drivers and it is working great, I get terrible performance on 12.2-12.4beta, and cant use rc11 at all.

Have you tried bone stock Windows 7? E.g. install Windows 7, install video card drivers, install Origin/BF3 and test?

Having been a hardcore Nvidia guy for so long and coming from 2 470s I couldn't be happier with the card however AMD drivers suck. Absolutely suck.

I'm curious as to how you know that AMD drivers absolutely suck with you having been an Nvidia guy for so long and all...did you hear it from a friend? I've been running AMD cards now for 3 generations and have yet to experience any driver issues. Did they suck many years ago, sure, but I think it's time to let it go. ;)

While I agree that something doesn't seem right with this guy's setup, I doubt that it is a driver issue since he's tried a number of them. Perhaps your card is running at x1 instead of x16? :D

After having found the ASUS 7970 TOP card has issues with BF3 and having all of its DisplayPort audio ports enabled, try disabling those to see if it also impacts game performance (for me it crashed my system).

have you dried dxoverider or radeon pro and enabling triple buffering?
