7970 - 2D glitches after playing games?

I have a strange problem with my HD 7970 (OC - 1 ghz with stock cooler, running Catalyst 12.10).
Sometimes after playing a game I get a very short glitch after going back to the desktop. It's enough to notice it, but I don't really see what happens. I guess it's just part of the screen that messes up.

Has anyone had a similar problem and is it more likely to be driver or hardware related?

I have something similar -- running a 7970 - and with 12.10 or 12.11 drivers I will get 2D corruption when in Windows 8 when moving windows around or doing regular tasks. Once I stop moving anything on the screen it's all good. This only occurs if my card is overclocked (even if its only 1Mhz it will do it)

If i use the 12.8 drivers -- I can clock my GPU up to it's stable 1190Mhz and not get any corruption. Soon as I try to upgrade drivers, even 926Mhz isn't stable.

Just for fun, try the 12.8 drivers they are the only ones I can use that don't bork my display all up when gaming or overclocking.

I know it's not a hardware issue because I can run the GPU all day with the 12.8's at 1190Mhz in 3dMark or Bitcoin mining and never have an issue.

It rarely happens, so unfortunately I can't really test it..

I'm thinking about doing an RMA on the card, as it has pretty bad coil whine. Better safe than sorry..

I'm also having this problem, its something to do with the and card at idle if I use my 1600p monitor on desktop/metro I get flickering lines and triangles but if I load a game in window mode the GPU clocks go up and fix the problem...

I have this exact same issue. (XFX 7970 DD) Again, putting it under any kind of 3d load fixes it immediately. Running 12.8 drivers
