running an e6300 @ a little over 3ghz, 2 gigs of 4-4-4-12, and a mildly cooled and clocked EVGA 7950GX2 powering a 21 inch widescreen @ 1680x1050

company of heroes kicks my systems ass
bioshock kicks my systems ass
world of warcraft almost never holds @ 60 fps (vsync on)

thinking upgrade time for my video card, to an 8800gtx...... but everything i read shows no huge difference in performance. (with some exceptions)

am i wrong in thinking that my current system should be able to handle these games at or near max settings?? will an 8800gtx help matters??

what do you think?

since the new 9 series cards are coming out, i suggest u wait a few months.

I'm thinking something isnt working right, as your card is still pretty powerful and shouldnt be showing it's age quite yet.

I went from a 7950GX2 to an 8800GTS 640mb and saw a nice improvement. The frame rate is much more consistant and the image quality is much better.

Its much nicer not running an SLI card also. My main problem with the 7950GX2 was with games that didnt utilize SLI, or do it well. The GX2 did about the same as the 7800GTX it replaced on some games.

since the new 9 series cards are coming out

I didnt think that was certain yet, if the 9 series is coming or a refresh? If you want the card then buy it now, the upgrade is worth it.

I dont agree..If your not happy with your 7950 then grab a GTX...

Exactly. Welcome to PC gaming, where there is always something better coming out "in a few months". If your current games are struggling, and you have the money - upgrade and enjoy.

I also have a GX2 and have been thinking about upgrading, if you are going to upgrade go GTX or dont bother, in many cases the GTS is sometimes slower than the GX2.

I will say though for sure I will never buy an SLI setup again. It works great....when it works.
The driver hassles and number of problems with certain titles makes it more trouble than its worth. The GTX is more than I want to spend, so I am going to wait a while.
