7950GX2 or 8800GTS?

hey guys and gals,

I am on the path to a new PC, and I am looking for some advice. The differnce in the product is pretty much 300 dollars, and all I will be gaming at for now, is 1024x768 (crappy CRT). after I get rid of the CRT it will be gaming at 1440x900 or at the max, 1680x1050. THe CPU is an E6300, 2GB RAM etc. So what do you think is the better buy? I do tend to upgrade quite frequently, so I think the 7950 is a better choice, but I want to be sure.
 
uh the bestprice I've seen on the 7950GX2 is USED $350. I paid $460 NEW for my Asus 8800GTS

get the 8800GTS it is WAY better in every respect.
 
I don't know where you can even get a new 7950 GX2 anymore, or why anyone would want to. The GTS costs about the same, has slightly better performance, much better image quality, looks a lot nicer, has a better feature set, supports DX10, doesn't suffer when games don't implement SLI support properly, etc.

I hope that's not US dollars, or someone's seriously trying to rip you off. You can get an 8800 GTS on Newegg for $450.

Okay, well that might change things. $400 CDN for a GX2 is pretty damn good, and performance is about the same as the GTS in most cases. Image quality, feature set, power consumption, and such are worse. I suppose it depends on whether you know the person who currently owns the card, and how much risk you're willing to take on a used product.
 
The 7950GX2 is the better card and will stay up to date with your updates for sometime I
saw this card for sale at Directron.com for $519.99 + shipping and 1- XFX- for $489.99 if you go to the site you might consider the XFX 7900GTX for $469.99 it is faster on both

While the 7950GX2 is a good card, it's not better than the 8800GTS, especially when the GTS is so easily overclocked.

The 8800GTS is as fast or faster with better IQ, the new AA and AF alone make it a much better choice. Even without DX10 its clearly a better card. Plus the GX2 doesn't work with all mobos.
