7950GX2 - Multi GPU help!

Hey guys,

Since getting my new 7950GX2, I've had nothing but headaches :(. It started when in CS:S I only get 40 fps, however in BF2, I get around 70-80 . . .

So I started doing some research. First off, I foudnd that the newer 91.31-91.45 drivers have a lot of little annoying bugs in them, and have YET to find a GOOD driver for the 7950GX2 . . . any ideas?

Then I found out that I not only had to make sure Multi-GPU was enabled (obviously) but I THEN had to FORCE it to use Single Performance Mode. So I did that, however, there was still no real change in the fps.

NOW I'm reading that the 7950GX2supports SFR/AFR for game profiles. Because of this, I'm now not sure what to settings to use for my games.

Under the setting: "Mutli-GPU Performance Mode" here are the options I have:

Nvidia Recommended (Multi-GPU)
Force split frame rendering
Force alternate frame rendering 1
Force alternate frame rendering 2
Single-GPU

Now obviously Single-GPU is not the one I want to be using. I'm currently using Multi-GPU . . . this IS correct . . . right?

If so, any recommendations on a GOOD driver? It can be a beta, an official, a modified - doesn't metter to me.

Also, ANY ideas as to why my CS:S is only getting an avverage of 40FPS, with a MAX FPS of 60 (staring up at the sky) , even though I have "fps_max" set to 300? Yet on my other machine, with the same specs, and same driver, it is silky smooth playing CS:S :(.

Any help is appreciated
 
Well, figured out the CS:S problem mighty fast, ater I made this post . . .

By comparing EVERY setting in the Control Panel and in CS:S with my other PC . . . I magically turned V-Sync on for some unknown reason, thus caping it at 60FPS. Now all is well flying at an average of 120FPS :). Yes, I have apologized to my 7950 for cursing it out the last few days, LOL.

However, something that DOES still happen is on ANY game I play, my mouse cursor flickers . . . I'm assuming it's just the drivers, and plan on reinstalling them in a few minutes; I'll post back the results.

However, I'd still like to know about the different Multi-GPU modes; just to make sure I'm in the right setting.

I think the mouse flickering is the drivers (this only happens in 3D, right?). I get the flickering in BF2, and I need to restart the computer every time because the mouse also disappears on the bottom half of the screen. Well, I need to mouse to actually select options, like Login, and Join Server. :)

Yeah my mouse flickers on the bottom half of the screen in BF2 also, however I'm running quad. I'll take that any day over the DVI jitters from the last drivers... oh god that was terrible.

Also, I noticed (mostly in CSS) that depending on what angle you look at the water, different shaders are used. On the bottom 1/4 (probably where it splits one of the 4 gpu's) the water is opaq, but if you look down, when the water it towards the middle of the screen, its clear.
 
Ok...so I installed this bad boy and jacked up the mem clock to 700mhz and the 3d to 550mhz.

I haven't really been slamming the card with games. What do I do now?

hahahaa, i'm not sure if I need to do anything other than the whole "multi-gpu" setting.

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question about the 7950GX2 that I don't think warrants a new thread.

Do they require an SLI board to work? Like, assuming I get either a Crossfire or Single-PCIe board, will *one* of these still work fine? I'm not really sure, as the list of compatable boards are all SLI, but I'd assume since it's only one PCIe slot, it would work in other types of motherboards... >.<
 
Nope. I'm using an Ultra-D which is NOT an SLI board . . . works fine :).
 
dude, this damn card is cooking the inside of rig...even though I have a Thermaltake Armor (tower) case...my chipset temps are above 50 and shutting down the rig when I game.

How can I cool the rig more?
