7950 vs 7870 upgrade

looking at doing an upgrade and a his 7950 isn't too much more expensive than a gigabyte 7870 but would it really be worth stretching my budget?

what you really should ask yourself, is what monitor you have? and what resolutions does it support?

a 7870 isn't all that much slower than a 7950. In fact a overclocked 7870 comes pretty close to the base line 7970. Of course when you overclock the 7950/7970 they are indeed a good bit faster.

Mostly use my tv which is only 1080.

a 7870 is more than enough for 1080p.

if you wanted to save some money you could go with a 7850 and still get decent results as well.

the 7870 is a powerful card, even with a upgraded monitor you will be able to run most games at 1600P maxed out.

just grab another 7870, and you will blow the doors off a single 7970.

I just bought a 7950 pcs+ off eBay for 400 shipped. I chose that over a $400 7870 twin frozr. I play at 1080p but I want my frame rate to be rock solid.

7870's don't cost 400$ bro. Congrats on your purchase you sucessfully spent more than you needed to for a 1080p gaming setup.

Yeah I think I'll be happy with a 7870 as long as it performs a bit better than my current set up I assume it'll be about the same.
