7950 GX2's Replacement?

Okay, I've run into a problem with my ABS PC and UPS has turned it into a nightmare.

Here are the highlights:

  1. Problem, possibly with motherboard, caused me to ship PC, under warranty, back to manufacturer in early July.
  2. I shipped it through UPS who damaged it in route.
  3. UPS picked it back up for inspection.
  4. UPS depot there failed to perform inspection and shipped it back instead.
  5. UPS damaged it even more in route.
  6. UPS took a long time to finally inspect it, more time to do paperwork, and was supposed to issue me a check today.
  7. UPS changed their mind and refused to issue a check without repair estimate from manufacturer.
  8. UPS is shipping it back to manufacturer, again.

Now because a couple of components are probably still okay ABS will try to do a repair. This will help avoid any fair market value or depreciation games from UPS.

However, given what it's gone through the video card may need to be replaced and they no longer list the 7950 GX2 so I am being told that they will use a "listed replacement."

Not being a guru, and forgetting to ask at the time, I wonder what this listed replacement will be.

SLI isn't an option due to it having an Intel mobo.

So among these cards which is closest, in your opinion, to a VGA EVGA GF7950 GX2?

ABS has worked with me pretty well so far but I may have to start battling with them, in addition to UPS, if they try and undercut me with a significantly less valuable video card.
 
Probably an 8800GTX. It is, roughly speaking, twice as fast as a 7900 and since what you've got is 2 7900s on a chip that's probably what you are aiming for. However I would say that a GTS is an acceptable replacement. Might not be as fast in all situations, but still plenty fast and definitely in the same performance ballpark.
 
That's bullshit about your UPS ordeal. Anyways, you will probably be getting a 8800GTS 640MB. As Sycraft said, it's just as fast in worst case scenarios but usually a margin faster, and you get DX10 compatibility and DX9 performance that is only surpassed by the 8800GTX and Ultra cards at this current time.

BTW Sy, it's two faster clocked 7900 GTs on two PCBs on a single card, not merely a singe chip.
 
well, depending on how cheap they are, they may say fuck you and ship you an 8600, or they could be nice and send you a 320MB GTS, as that is the next video card up, and is faster than the GX2.

I was thinking the same thing. Better hope this don't happen, and if it does, talk to Kyle - he is very good at resolving these issues!
 
It is a full replacement situation as far as I am concerned.

The GX2 was the top dog at the time and your entitled to top dog now. Period. Thats how insurance works. UPS should be forking over for a GTx no questions asked or get an attorney.
