7900gtx

a core 2 duo e6600 and 2gb

about as arbitrary an answer as the question.

Your existing setup in your sig is fine for SLI, assuming you have an SLI board. Anymore I would suggest 2GB RAM and a dual-core CPU, the faster the better.

Maybe we are reading the wrong sig but his says he has an SLI board, a 3800+ X2 (Which is AMD dual core) and 2gigs of DD2800?

yes, i have amd dual-core @2700, 2gb ram @899mhz, mobo is m2n-SLI deluxe, so i can get it working? and which drivers should i use?

No problem! Your CPU and RAM are perfectly fine for a pair of 7900GTX's in SLI.

A single 7900GTX is more than twice as fast as a 7600GT, so with two 7900's, you'd enjoy at least 4 times the GPU power. Also, 7900GTX's in SLI can be very close to an 8800GTX in many games (roughly 20% performance difference overall which is hardly noticeable).

RIF, right? My "recommendation" was a non-specific generalization, but I admit I didn't pay much attention to the model of his motherboard. :D

Two 7900 GTXs will not rival an 8800GTX, and it goes back and forth with the 8800 GTS. I would not recommend 7900GTX in SLI, you can have more performance for less (or maybe the same) money with an 8800 series now. The 8800 GTS generally only beats the 7900s in shader intensive games, and alot of games are like that now. I looked into SLIing 7900 GTXs and concluded it was a better idea to sell the one i had and get an 8800 series.

Here's a in-depth review by XbitLabs that compares dual 7900GTX vs. 8800GTX for more than 20 different games:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gf8800-games_3.html#sect1

There are a number of games where 7900GTX SLI actually beat 8800GTX at all benchmarked resolutions (up to 1920x1200) even with 4x FSAA enabled. Such examples are: FEAR, FEAR Extaction Point, Prey, Quake 4, Splinter Cell, X3 Reunion, Rise of Nations, etc..

The biggest flaw with the 8800GTX was UT2004. Nvidia never fixed its driver problems with Unreal Tournament 2004, and it's been a year since!!! UT2004 was unplayable on some maps with severe stuttering problems. UT2004 is the game that I played by far the most of all, so I still love my dual-7900 arsenal.

Here's another interesting review that includes all the current video cards, done on SEVERAL games (although it's foreign).. I just came across this one and it's awesome! check it out:

Keep in mind that a pair of 7900GTX's is roughly 15-25% faster than a 7950GX2 overall. A not-so-positive-footnote is that in a FEW games, a 7950GX2 will work with built-in SLI whereas a pair of 7900GTX'es wont work in SLI, but it's rare to come across such a game. And vice-versa for even fewer other games (where a pair of 7900's will work in SLI when a 7950GX2 will only work in single mode).
