I am trying to figure out what card would be the best for playing HD-DVD's on a HDTV. The 7900GS can be bought for around $150 and seems like a good HDCP capable card. Of course I would like to get an 8800 but I think that it would be overkill for just playing HD-DVD's and plus it is more than twice the money. Would the 7900GS be sufficient or would there be a better choice. Thanks in advance...

I run one in my HTPC and it is overkill.
But it also allows me to play battlefield at 1692 x 996 with 2x AA. I run mine through the component out as my TV is a CRT rear projection (no DVI or HDMI input).
So i would say a few DVD's will be no problem.

If youre not gaming, settle for the cheapest HDCP card.
Be sure the rest of your system is up to par. For HD playback/recordning , youll need at least a c2d 6300, unless youre overclocking.
