7900 GTO availability or alternative

the 7900gto will trounce the 7900gt

if you want some solid performance, the x1950xt is pretty good. it's at www.ewiz.com

but i would wait a few days because there don't seem to be any reviews out yet

I suppose I should have mentioned it in my post, but I'd like to go with an Nvidia card.

Thanks though =)

The X1950XT doesnt need reviews. It will be slightly faster than a X1900XT 256mb. Higher clocked memory is the only difference between the two.

i'd still like to see some reviews before i spend 280$ on something, but that's just me evidently

if you're looking at NVIDIA cards only, the 7950 GT would be close in comparison to the 7900 GTO.

i wouldn't continue to wait for 7900 GTO's; eVGA made it clear that they were limited edition cards.

Correct

I just bought one from ewiz, its on its way to me now

as I said in an earlier post, it should do what the original 1900xtx dit

so it will own the 7900 GTO and anything up to a nvidia GX2 card

and its less than @280!

I was looking at the GTO previously, but after finding none in stock anywhere I then looked at the 1950 pro, but that looked a bit feeble for the rez I want to run it at

I then looked at the 1900 Xt but the fact that the cheapest one on new egg was an asus one for $310 and that it was old technology put me off

I really think its the best card to get bang for buck with the emphasis on the BANG

an EVGA 7950GT KO Superclocked might come CLOSE to a 7900GTO...but I mean, if your GTO is failing, anything is faster... :)

You could always get one from another member on the forums. I've seen a few pop up for sale. The closest would probably be the 7950GT which has similar specs but is also priced a lot higher than the GTO ever was.

The GTO doesn't exist anymore...The X1950XT is the only non-fictional alternative. the 7950GT lags behind both and the 7900GT lags behind a tortoise on a hot day. Plus, roughly 1/3 of GTOs have memory failures.

Yea, ATI's prices are always tempting... but I just find alot of problems with them in the majority of games (in the past anyways). Weird lines.. incorrect texture layering.. When a game is devoloped for Nvidia cards, they just don't seem to run as well on ATI cards.

Maybe its just me though...

My friend has a X1900XTX and i ordered an X1950XTX. There are no more problems these days. To say the least, NFS:Carbon runs better on ATI cards, and so does HL2, Prey, and eventually Crysis(was developed with ATI).

There is nothing wrong with getting an X1900 right now. They are really fast and have great image quality. 48 pipelines will be useful.

As I pointed out in another thread, higher clocked memory is also the only difference between the X1950 XTX and X1900 XTX, yet the former trounces the latter.

I have experienced what you're talking about with a Radeon LE, but that was a long time ago. I haven't had any such problems with my 9800 Pro.

There's also the MUCH MUCH MUCH improved cooler.

Pretty much for any x1800/x1900 series card you have to tack on an extra 30 bucks for aftermarket cooling. The noise and heat are horrendous stock.

Hm yea, I've had a 9800 Pro and now I have an x850 XT. I am always noticing glitches, namely in BF2, Oblivion, as well as older titles such as EQ and WoW.

I don't really have a bias against ATI, I just want a solid piece of hardware with quality, well tested driver releases.

My vote goes to the X1950XT. As said by others, it's basically a faster X1900XT 256MB, but it performs a decent amount better and it's probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck cards out there.

Sapphire does not offer a lifetime warranty. Still, their cards are very good. They manufacture the first-party branded ATI cards as well.

I should have said "only difference in regards to performance", but the point stands. The X1950 XT should be a great deal faster than the X1900 XT.

Wow. Thanks for pointing the X1950XT out to me, people. To think, I was seriously considering getting a 7950GT or X1900xt for a little more than that. As for the card itself, all I have to say is one thing: Yum.

I spent a lot of the weekend looking for the perfect mid $200 card and was pleased when I found it myself

I would go ahead and order from ewiz asap, they seem to be the only people stocking it right now....

I can't order it now, unfortunately. When I said "getting" I meant "getting for Christmas". So, I have to wait until early-mid December for the person to order it and then for Christmas. By then Newegg or ZZF will probably have it in stock, right?

yeah, by then it should not be a problem...

I'm lookin at this card also.... Wonder when retail boxed versions will come out from other manufacturers?

Right now this Sapphire OEM one appears to be the only one available

Is this going to actually be a new product or is it one of those flash in the pan, blink and it's gone things like the 7900 GTO?

Wait a second, a 256mb 1950xt? With the old style cooler? Is that pic right?

that's what i thought first time i saw it, so i posted it in the [H]ot deals section

evidently it's legit, and yea it's the oem, but the 7900gto didn't come with much either, so it's pretty fair comparison, imo (cept the gto isn't around anymore, so it's not really a valid comparison)

no reviews yet, but some press nonetheless

looks like a true performer

and as to ati v nvidia, i personally, prefer ati if you can't get the dx10 crop of hw. ati image quality is just better imo for the same fps

It's not the X1950XTX. It's really just an X1900XT 256MB with higher memory speeds.

I wanted a 7900GTO pretty bad but no where in stock, ended up getting a cheap 7900GT KO(looking to vmod lol) since my x1800xt fried, ... this will be at least till I can hold convince myself not to get one of em G80 monsters. Crysis delays are helping

I feel your pain :(

I bought an eVGA 512mb 7900GT (it's clocked higher than a stock 7950GT) last month and decided SLI was a good upgrade path so I got an NForce 570 SLI board, but now there are no more 512mgb 7900GT's left

I might buy that x1950XT and sell this GT.

Erm, what about CrossFire though? It doesn't have the "golden fingers" on top so does that mean it uses the external dongle? Is it even CrossFire able or would I need to use the x1950 CrossFire edition?

I bought an Intel 975X board for CrossFire support too.

Stop plugging your auction... I for one wouldn't touch that thing w/o a warranty which I'm not getting by buying from you off ebay.
