Should this matter very much? I just plan on gaming at 1920x1080.

whats your budget ? here is an excellent card at USD 260 . the sapphire HD 7870 XT with tahiti le chip . 1536 stream processors at 975 mhz. 256 bit memory at 1.5 ghz (192 Gb/s). this HD 7870 tahtiti le card with 50% more stream processors and 25% more bandwidth than HD 7850 is atleast 35% faster at stock. the gap increases with voltage overclocking as these extra shaders scale performance brilliantly with overclocking.

even if you are on a tight budget atleast get a HD 7850 2GB. don't go for a 1gb card. games like BF3 at ultra 4x MSAA, skyrim with mods easily exceed 1GB VRAM.

since you dont even have a sig, you need to always list ALL of your specs when asking for gpu advice.

and as raghu78 mentioned, get a 2gb card if going with a 7850. the small savings for a 1gb card is not worth it and will already limit your settings and available level of detail in some current games.

True - HD7850 2GB cards have fallen into the sub-$200 category.

Between HD7850 and GTX650 Ti, 2GB (GDDR5) cards where such an outsize RAM loadout actually makes sense have become affordable for the *midrange* gamer.

Shock and Awe - Not only 2GB of GDDR5 that is actually usable, but the 256-bit memory bus means zero bandwidth starvation (Crysis 2/3, Civ V - this means you!), one six-pin PCI-E power connector (basically same draw as HD7770), single-card Eyefinity is standard fare

Aw Shucks - poor fit for dual-core Intel or AMD CPUs (same is true of NVidia's GTX550 Ti/650 Ti) or CPU-limited titles, CrossFire cables typically not included at the low end
 
I ended up getting an open box MSI 7870 for $187 :p. It's not the model that has black screen problems either.
