I was thinking of moving to this card, maybe SLI, is it worth it to go SLI? Also, what is the best PCI-e x16 mboard to go with? What about that same question w/SLI?

weather or not sli is worth it or not is gona end up being your chouce. i beleave(and could be mistaken ) that the general consensis of the best mobo would be the dfi lanparty.
 
definitely the DFI nf4 sli or go cheap and get the DFI nf4 ultra and mod it to sli (super easy and despite what nvidia says theres nothing they can do about it) also it is my personal opinnion that SLI is a total waste of money
 
If you have funds to spend and want the best GPUs on the market that will last you for years to come, go ahead and spend the $1200 on a dual 7800 set up in SLI mode.

The lanparty is an awesome board, also consider the Fatal1ty and Asus A8N-SLI Premium

wasnt the fatil1ty sli board incopatible with the 7800? I cant remmber if it was the Abit Fatality or the MSI sli board but one of them has a capacitor in the way of one the cards so you cant run two of them

Worth finding out for sure.

I know the A8N SLI - Premium can fit 2 7800's
 
The 7800GTX performs so well on its own right now, I'm not sure you need SLI. Although what good is money if you don't spend it. I would get one and then plug another one in later if you feel you need more speed. As far as motherboards I am partial to ASUS, but I don't own a SLI board so in specific I can't comment. Luckily there are many on here that do.
 
i have to go asus as well, all the way. For one MSI's board doesn't fit a 2nd 7800gtx, and i believe the asus board is more stable than dfi's lanparty. Go with the asus premium and i guarantee you won't regret it. Awesome OC'ing with the premium, and rock stable

If asus is the king of stability than DFI is the evil overlord in shadows....the DFI can be extremely stable (even moreso than the asus) if configured correctly, which by the way takes a very experienced and knowledgable person.
 
I can't say I'm overjoyed with this "debunking." Just bend the capacitors out of the way, sure! Nobody will apply a little too much pressure and snap them off! Or not move them far enough and have them snap off when the card is inserted. Plus, don't capacitors get a little hot to be left in physical contact with wiring like that?

I'm not saying it won't work most of the time, but if even a few people end up with dead boards or GTX's, it would be unfortunate if a casual attitude toward the problem played a part in that.

The Tyan K8WE. :D Full on dual x16 PCI-Express slots. However, its only for dual Opterons. So probably not what you were thinking of.

The only real choices are the Asus A8N-SLi Premium and the DFI Ultra Lan-Party SLi board whos model number I can't remember. MSI and a few other companies make similar solutions as well.

MSI has some weird ass -5v requirement though that some PSU's don't have if I recall correctly.

The DFI has a few out of the box issues. The A8N-SLi Premium gets my vote. Its dual x8 slots in SLi mode. But every board besides the K8WE. That is sufficient. I love SLi. I've had two SLi setups they're great.

I am buying two 7800GTX's next week hopefully.
 
If you plan on overclocking then dont even think twice about the DFI board. DFI murders ASUS in overclockability and tweaking. If you just want to run stock settings though i'd get the ASUS because DFI boards do take a little learning with the DRAM settings.

And i think two 7800GTX's would be a waste of alot of money dude. A single 7800GTX is as fast as two 6800 Ultra's in SLI so wouldn't that be fast enough for you already? Especially since there aren't any games to actually take advantage of that performance and your CPU may not even be fast enough to keep from bottlenecking them.
 
what is the best PCI-e x16 mboard to go with?

intel has a $300 mobo with sli, cool. if you had an intel system.
