This is from the MSI page for there 7800GTX, I thought it was funny.
System Requirements

To install the VGA card, your computer system needs to meet the following requirements:
• Intel Pentium III (and above), AMD K7 (and above) or compatible with PCI Express slot
• Minimum 128MB of system memory
• Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
• Interactive Program guide requires Internet connection for listing updates
• Power supply of 400 (and up) watt is highly recommended for system stability.

NICE! :p

I am going to add one on to my Sister's 800Mhz PIII as soon as AGP comes out.

ya-right.

She is stuck with her TNT2 ( at least I OCed it )

I think its time to update their requirements, unless they know of some secret intel P3 that can do 3ghz or something.

7800GTX (if they make an AGP)+P3=Super Duper Processor Bottleneck

Zero

You guys arent following the current P3 line are you? Think about the mobile chips and the performance.

you would be referring to the Pentium-M? That's not exactly a P3, you know......

it's like the child or grandchild of the p3. The couple reviews I've read of them sound pretty good. They run games about as good as anything out there when the clock speed scales up. At 2.5 g's they rock. They just don't run encoding type apps well.

pentium 3 != pentium-M

yeah, it has the same basic p6 architechture, but it has many, many optimizations taken from the p4 years, and core tweaks to allow it to reach some higher clockspeeds, i dont believe it shares the p3's 10-stage pipelines, but intel has yet to comment on that.

Lol... I was actually laughing at this yesterday looking at my 6800GT box. How it would be funny if my graphics card had twice the mem of my system, I thought that would particularly be a hoot. I wonder when they are going to raise the requirement? :p

Actually, it's kind of weird they are not higher where am I going to get a P3 Pci-e board? No where. I guess the GTX is coming to AGP but who knows they could just not have changed any of this crap like a bunch of sleepy heads.

The Pentium M is similar to a Tualatin, not a Coppermine. Pentium 3's came in a few different cores, Katmai, Coppermine, Tualatin. Just like Pentium 4's came in Willamette, Northwood, Prescott.

As for running a 7800GTX on an AGP board, I could have sworn I saw an PCIe to AGP converter, or maybe it was an AGP to PCIe.

tualatin was a coppermine with a die shrink, extra cache, and data prefetch. pentium m is much more than that.

There's bound to be a agp version coming out soon. If there's market for it then either ati or nvidia will enter it. Just a matter of time. :)

My prediction is that the lower end 7xxx series cards will be AGP. There is just no point in choking the 7800GTX with a AGP port.

"an AGP." not a.

read up on the bandwidth that AGP gives and how much we are currently using. we are far from maxing it out and AGP would hardly "choke" a 7800GTX.

No kidding, we're not even close to using up the AGP bandwidth. There's really no reason for them not to have an AGP 7800GTX other than increased cost, and possibly they want to speed up the markets move to PCIe.

I mean't to say its loosely based on the Tualatin.
