7800gtx 256 OC problems

Hey all

My BFG 7800gtx seems to be unable to go above 500 on the core and 1320 on the memory

although it can do 1350 on memory if core is left at stock speeds

as of now I am using HeavyH20s 473 core bios and I have tried ocing on stock bios and that

System is watercooled and temps are fine

cpu is a 2.7ghz 4800x2

I see 7800gtxs go over 500 and 1350 on air ALL the time

seems as if maybe this is a volt starved card that has nothing left at all or maybe something else is wrong here

I am using the 92.91 beta drivers as I have heard these are the best from multiple people...they also seem to give me a better score then most drivers in 3dmark0-5 at about 8750

any suggestions or ideas would help

also is it a possibily that voltage to the actuall pci bux would yield better results or is this a negative thought

I have alot of experience with ocing so I can do almost anything you suggest

500 core sounds pretty nice with stock cooler... Mine only goes to 495... I can get mem to 1350 though.

well stock this was 460 and 1300 on core

I see air cooled ones go above 500 on core

so it really doesnt make sense mine cant on water

I understand these cards are volt starved but my god non volt modded ones easily go over 500

Do you have a BIOS option to give more volts to the PCI-e slot? I dunno if any motherboard manufacturer give that option on their BIOS, but thought I would ask

umm on my old board it did on this one it i dont believe it has voltage increases it does have frequency increases though

i doubt that would do it

seems like maybe this is just a weak card?

seems to wierd though

I havnt seen volt modding in the bios for the video until you mentioned it and I checked. I have it on this motherboard for agp. I thought it would just add more volts to the bus and not the actual video card. If it adds it to the card that would be sweet.

I have one of those, with an Zalman cooler on it. I haven't tried going over the 'optimal' overclock, which is 484 & 1350 mHz.

PCIE voltage is NOT GPU voltage... there is circuitry on the card to reduce the voltage down to a GPU's needs... Generally the card uses 12V which gets converted down to under 2V at many amps.

when i said voltage regulation in the bios i meant for the bus not for the card

id prefer to not have to volt mod this card but rather overclock it without that

just scored a 8737 on edmark05

id love to get 9k outa this card

also has anyone ever had trouble getting this card past clocks as low as mine?

cmon someone has to have at least one suggestion or answer

Well, the answer's simple, you'll need to Volt mod it.

There's no GPU BIOS mods for it, as the core's already operating at 1.5v.

Your Mobo BIOS (different than the GPU BIOS) won't add any stability to the Graphics card, as any PCIE voltages would only affect the PCIe bus, and nothing attached to it.

So, you have to volt mod the card with some conductive ink... ot OC your CPU a bit more...

well i see alot of non volt modded 7800 gtxs going over 500 easy on core...and 1350 on mem easy

so do you think that 473 is a little low for the volts to be the issue?

not to mention I dont want to volt mod this card...iu have yet to see a non volt modded 7800 gtx be unable to get over what I have have posted as my limitations

id love to at the very leat get 500 on the core not including delta and 1350 on memory

which seems to be an easy task on all the ones i see that arent volt modded
