Given that they are currently priced nearly the same (after tax and shipping), should I compare these two 7800GT cards simply by their clock speeds?

eVGA = 445MHz
BFG = 425MHz

I don't know anything about either company other than BFG advertises a lot more and has a good reputation for customer service - should I ever need it.

They both have lifetime warranties.

I have the BFG version. Runs perfectly, but if I had to choose again I would go with EVGA.

EVGA, from what Ive been reading, has CS equally as good as BFG. On top of that EVGA offers the step-up program AND lifetime warranty and then some. Such as the allowing the use of a third party cooler. Unfortunately BFG only offers lifetime warranty.

The fan on my BFG is the loudest component in my computer. It is SOOOO loud. I really want to stick a Zalman on it :(

I vote eVGA simply because at one point there was a eVGA rep here who talked about thier warranty. Its untouchable. I am pretty sure I can quote him as saying "you can throw a dead cat at the card and if it breaks, we'll fix it"*

*that might not be entirely true

yea and if nvidia comes out with an "ultra" type card, you can get full value for your evga gt or gtx if/when you upgrade, at least within a certain time limit. as far as quality, pretty much every 7800 out there is a ref card, there are a few stages of core speeds that can be enabled , 400, 425, 450, 470, etc but aside from that all cards the same.
anyway, you should wait until next week and buy a r520, because its going to blow the 7800 away, etc, etc

very truly yours,

In the times I have used evga customer service I have always hung up satisfied with the result. Infact a couple of times when I was having problems with specific games the cs rep actually loaded up the game on a test rig with the same card and helped me trouble shoot the problem.

Having not owned a bfg product I am slightly bias, and highly recommend evga =0.

My eVGA 7800GT is running perfect. Oc'd to 464/1110 and has been flawless since I bought it. Their customer service/warranty is some of the best I've seen.

I say BFG being that I never had any problems with them and my first EVGA turned out to be a bust. There has been alot of problems with some to the point where they had to release a new bios for people to flash there card so it runs lower than spec even though there was no noticeable difference. I have a new one coming but its going right into the FS section.

I can't speak to either of these companies. I don't own any of their products.

You might have seen the NewEgg sale on the EVGA 7800GT this week. Well they have 2 7800GT cards that differ only by part number. I sent EVGA an email yesterday morning at 7 AM to ask what was the difference. They didn't respond so this morning at 8 I sent them another email asking the same thing. They still haven't answered.

Customer service means a lot and it's not a good sign when they don't care enough to answer possible customers. If they responded yesterday, or even today I probably would have ordered one. Now I'm on the edge of never orering anything from them. Ever.

I'd go with eVGA SOLEY for their warranty.

Yes they both have lifetime warranties, which is great, but eVGA covers overclocking and aftermarket coolers. Of course the eVGA is clocked slightly higher also. If you want to overclock without voiding the warranty, go eVGA. Otherwise BFG would be a good choice also. I'd trust my money with either company. Also BFG is supposed to have stellar customer support.

I've never had a BFG card before, but I have experience with eVGA.

I would suggest BFG, but they are comparable both with lifetime warranties.

However I am tired of seeing that Evga will pay for people's fuck ups.

Bottom Line, don't make a purchasing decision on marketing BS, I will agree that Evga will support O/cing and fuck-ups when I see it in writing, in which most of us clearly don't.

Dont you enjoy the underlining parts, that people fail to read. Who knows what the service charge is, when you burn your card up O/cing and it no longer works, perhaps the price of a whole new pcb, with a new core and memory? Perhaps?
