I believe it was anandtech covering the launch who mentioned Nvidia was dropping the ultra moniker feeling that the GT was a more marketable name

Shifra said:same way all the nvidia bots here say the R520 missed its launch date....even though it never had one publically.![]()
While ATI have previously been a little coy about R520s release dates in public, with ATIs CEO, Dave Orton, saying that they had initially hoped for an early summer release but it will now be late summer, it is blatantly obvious that it has been delayed. In a recent investors Q&A session ATIs Senior Vice President of the PC Business Unit, Rick Bergman, on the subject of R520 said "We had hoped to have that product in the June timeframe, but unfortunately due to a variety of design issues it has moved out to the September / October timeframe for launch". This is more or less in-line with the late summer launch previously mentioned by Dave Orton.

In the past, hasn't nVidia always released their fastest cards first, followed by the slower models (Ultra, GT, regular)?
It would make sense that nVidia would release the GTX, GT, and plain jane 7800 wouldn't it?
CMAN said:Have you ever seen one,it's only been talk as of right now. I couldn't agree more the R520 is just as available as the 7800 ultra, as are the spec's.
DaveOrton said:But to be honest, weve had our share of challenges with the R520 and RV530 chips. Even though all the simulations that were done with the chips were looking good, there were still issues with the silicon when it came back from the fab. It was also surprising that RV515 and RV530 were designed by the same team and manufactured in the same fab using same technology, but RV515 worked perfectly and RV530 caused us problems".

Contrary to what someone said the GTX name replaced the Ultra name. This was publically stated before the GTX came out.
And I get my news from [H] too!
You do that.Mister E said:I'm just gonna sit here and wet myself.
Sly said:I may have missed it but who publicly stated the existence of the ultra? Unless a news is confirmed by a company exec (like the R520 launch date) it's gonna be really hard to believe.

Russ said:you are saying the same thing that I think. I agree with you. I guess you misunderstood me or something.
