7800 to launch at CeBIT

What are they going to match 6950 and 6970 launch msrp with around the same performance? That'll earn a gold medal here.;)
 
The 7870 should be about 60-70% as powerful as a 7970 by my calculations, given the number of CUs (22). The 7890 looks to be interesting as it is a 24 CU tahiti model.

you mean the move to 28nm cost nothing vs an already price reduced (it was late, and the GTX580 launched in the meantime) 40nm pig of a chip?

Why wouldn't a mid-range part that uses less energy, producing less heat, while performing the same as last years top of the line part, not get a gold medal? Especially considering non-existent competition because Nvidia can't get its crap together?

look at it this way.. IF for example the 7890 matches the same performance as the 6970 but uses 50-70w less, creates 10-15% less heat while costing a similar price.. i'd say yeah it could win a gold medal but quite frankly i think the overclock alone that it should achieve will make up for its lack of performance at reference clocks.

but honestly i'll wait til we get some real reviews of the card and see where it ends up performance wise and power usage wise since the 7870/7890 is what i'm looking at buying. the power usage in comparison to the 6970 is far more important to me then anything else really.

Because you omitted the factor that about 90%+ buyers consider the most important, price.

And they're offering more at the same price points. Does no one understand how slow 28nm production is right now?

I'd be disappointed if that's all they could squeak out of 28nm, but I agree with the sentiment.
