I know this is a repost of what i had going on in the nvidia flavor, but it seems more ppl frequent on the main video card section. really need help on this so I apologize.

Ok for those that did not read that yet...

I have a 7800 GTX from XFX came stock at 490 mhtz (I checked using rivatuner and it is deff at 490 mhtz in under 3d performance)

My problem is this. I run 3d mark get a score over 8k

http://www.empireproduct.com/why.JPG

and then i open cs source and look what they show for recommended settings

http://www.empireproduct.com/lifesucks.JPG

When i try to play on the settings i use to play on flawlessly with my previous card (6800 Ultra), it lags considerbly - fps dips constanly, hitching, jittering, horrible image quality, etc...but temps stay normal around 70c ish - could not be an overheating issue.

My specs are as follow minus video card:

AMD FX-53
Windows x64 Pro
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe bios version 1013
2 gigs of Corsair XMS series ram
Antec 550watt True Power PSU
Using 78.01 display drivers and Chipset 6.66 drivers

waiting on my new PSU so I can install my new stuff, but I kinda wanna fix this dilema before I do any upgrading.

also note, this is a fresh reformat. No previous drivers were installed. I just uninstalled the nvidia drivers, went into safe mode cleaned it with driver cleaner (everything), installed the drivers in safe mode and restarted - still same problem.

can the card be faulty when producing a good score on 3dmark? could there be a setting that is not set in the nvidia properties? I have not touched anything there yet.

any ideas on how to fix this? or should i just RMA the card? thanks all

I would try different drivers and see if that helps, try previous releases and I am really not too crazy about XP 64, for the fact that is still new and work still needs to be done, but with Vista/Longhorn XP 64 just might be forgotten about in the long run.

edit...... also I would not even bother paying attetion to that source recommended junk, I think I got the same then when I used to have a 9800XT

hmm..but the 6800 ultra worked fine with the same exact drivers

i mean it doesn't make sense to use older drivers for a newer card does it?

try not cross posting your problem in two forums...

oh and the source engine is incompatible with windows x64. some people are able to play source games, but most can't, and valve's official position is that windows x64 is an unsupported operating system. sometimes the bleeding edge hurts.

i wrote that if i bump up the recommended settings it would dip like MAD, huge hitching, jittering, almost unplayable with horrible image quality.

this card i own atm is just a 3dmark showoff nothing more. i even called xfx and the guy is such a retard. i kept telling him that its a fresh reformatted hardrive and he keeps telling me

"are u sure you uninstalled your old drivers in control panel and went into safe mode and used a driver cleaner?"

god damn it i told him 10 times i have not yet installed any other driver. its a fresh cleanly reformated hardrive damnit!

than he tells me are you sure you connected the power plug? no shit how the heck would i score over 8000 in 3dmark if i didn't?

than he goes please contact your game software company to resolve the issue and he hangs up on me!

if i cant get this to work i hope newegg will RMA this...cause I am not getting no help from XFX atm.

it doesn't work in one game on an incompatible operating system and you want an RMA? that makes almost too much sense.

i said i was sorry but i was not gettin any help on the other thread so i thought posting here would generate more input. again i apologize...

also your post may be true. but i told you when i was using my 6800 ultra using the same exact stuff, same OS (windows x64), same drivers i stressed tested over 152 fps and played flawlessly with not a hitch! my os is clearly not the issue bro. there is something else wrong. it can't be that the card is faulty its gotta be some setting that i must change cause its almost impossible for a card to bench so well in a 3d bench program and perform miserably in an actual game! in the years of computing this is the first time i have seen this happen.

come on any hardware gurus out there who knows what is up? thanks

You said you installed your Video Card drivers. DId you install your motherboard drivers, as well?

your wrong. other games are not running smooth as the 6800 ultra did. the only thing that this card did better than the ultra in was 3dmark which is my beef with this card atm. i think you would be pissed too if you spent 500 on a brand new card and all it does good in is a program you can't actually play in. and you know what a **** it is to RMA stuff especially when i have to drive damn far to the nearest fedex office with a jeep that eats gas like no tomm at 3.59 a gallon here. (no they don't pick up stuff at my house to deliver elsewhere)

i guess if there is noone who can help RMA is my only choice because I do not have another computer with a PCI-E slot to test it on.

unless anyone know if there are problems with the 7800 gtx and the new bios 1013 from asus? ( Asus A8N SLI deluxe mobo)...no luck on asus forums...

yes. please read my post fully i said i installed the new chipset 6.66 drivers, (i apologize for not adding " nforce 4 for amd driver") directly from nvidias site and tried the ones on the asus site. same problem

i installed every driver you need. i installed every driver i ever had when i had my 6800 ultra. i shouldn't need anything else besides

direct x 9.0c
nvdia display drivers (i have the 78.01 installed - tried the 78.03) 64bit
nvidia chipset drivers 6.66 for amd systems 64 bit
amd cpu drivers from amd site

in control panel there is not 1 device not installed or states that there is a problem.
I disabled all devices that I am not using.
I do not have nvidia firewall installed.

what else more do i need?

It doesnt matter what HL2 detects, set your settings to what you want and play it and see if everything is fine. If you are getting problems however, it might actully be the drivers.

Did you ever think maybe you should try WinXP 32 bit just to see if your card is bad or not?

Chances are your drivers, OS and motherboard bios are all playing havoc with each other and your bitchin about the best hardware on the planet.

please read my post in all and not skimm thru

i even posted it twice. i will say it again...

if i bump up the settings other than what it says for recommended, its like running cs source on ps1.

here is my main question. sorry for the caps but people keep asking questions of what i did wrong when i wrote it plenty of times.

MY BRAND NEW 7800GTX CAN SCORE OVER 8000 IN 3DMARK05 SEE:

http://www.empireproduct.com/why.JPG

HOWEVER OTHER GAMES RUN LIKE **** AND CS SOURCE DISPLAYS CRAPPY RECOMMENDED SETTINGS - IF I BUMP THEM UP IT LAGS TO HELL..SEE:

http://www.empireproduct.com/lifesucks.JPG

again i apologize for the caps. and before i see another post bout x64 OS not working well with some games.

I USED X64 WINDOWS WITH MY 6800 ULTRA AND HAD ZERO PROBLEMS.

the only thing this brand new card has done for me is do better in 3dmark 05 thats it!

my question is why? any gurus out there? thanks all. dont flame me for caps but you gotta understand people keep asking questions that are already answered if they just read my post fully and not skimm thru it.

So you're saying that because it worked with different hardware that the OS isn't the problem? That doesn't make much sense when you consider what the driver is doing on a software level. Posting the same thing over and over again in multiple threads, shouting and not listening to anyone won't solve your problem or make you well-liked.

Try Windows XP 32 bit if you can. Try a DIFFERENT game other than Source before you conclude that all games are running crappy. No offense, but you're starting to piss me off.

will do it. brb in 2 hrs. but i can't understand why the 7800gtx will force me to go back to winxp 32bit when a lesser card performed flawlessly on winxp 64 bit.

i am bitching? yea i am...you would too in this situation buddy.

when somthing was working flawlessly than you buy something that is suppose to be better, yea it was in 3dmark - thats it...i think you would be pretty pissed too, if not than you got some crazy anger management.

no1 really answered why it performs well in 3dmark and not in games. if you do not know than please keep your comments to yourself thank you.

omfg, i said i tried MANY different games, dont you read? I know i stated FEAR and Battle of middle earth somewhere. how much different is it? and if i have the same problem with win xp 32 bit what you gonan say then? i guarantee i will have the same problem brb...

o btw just to add, warcraft 3 no good, age of empire 3 demo no good, BF 2 demo no good!

Your playing with brand new stuff that has different resource usage. It might not even be the cards drivers doing it...might even be a compatibility problem that will get fixed in the motherboards bios as an update.

You have to look at all the angles, you may even have to use a dual boot if you have to play CS-S just for now.

Patience.

Alright Ice-whatever your name is....you are using an UNSUPPORTED OS...Guess what? That means that if it doesn't work, TOO BAD. Its not a final release. Beta releases are just that, meant for beta testing.

You are complaining over and over again that games aren't working well in xp 64...Look at the reviews comparing xp32 to xp64...EVERY game run under the 64bit environment ran SLOWER than its xp32 counterpart.

Zinn is completely right here. How can EVERY review site praise a card and you just happen to have the one that doesn't work well? Sounds like user error or using the wrong OS for gaming. Have fun with this one I'm out.

quit blaming the freakin damn OS when it worked fine with 6800 ultra why make the 7800 worse? and to prove my point i am back on 32 bit xp pro

ooooo 3d mark got better scores...

http://www.empireproduct.com/new.JPG (temps are shown as soon as 3dmark was done which shows this card is not even close to overheating)

but same old problems with games - all games i can get my hands on. can you 2 explain that?

are you telling me there is an article somewhere that says a

6800 ultra performs flawlessly on x64 windows (it did for me, super flawless) but the 7800 gtx does not? and only does well in 3dmark? noone finds this strange and just blames me for my errors? please... show me an aritcle please!

i just want to freakin know why this card is producing good scores on 3d mark and can't play a game that performs better than the 6800 ultra. It performs worse actually and it only does better in 3dmark05...how could you even tell if its faulty or not?

my only option right now i suppose (until some person who really knows what hes talking about comes along - os the problem? i just proved that wrong) ) is to wait for my new PSU, install my x2 and see if my problems will go away.

What's wrong with the Antec 550 that you need to replace it? I'm sure it can handle an X2

I would take *Mark0x scores with a grain of salt, what matters is in-game performance, which you're lacking. Now that you're using a tried-and-true OS and you have all the drivers installed (SP2 and all the latest updates too, right?) and you're still having problems with 3D games, I'd say plug your 6800U back in and see if it runs as smooth as it did before. If it does, plug the 7800 back in and see if you have problems again. RMA if you do.

You know I remember hearing something about the 7800GTX and new nVidia drivers not working with Win. X64 Pro. Not shure, but check into it, and try Win XP 32. Olso in the GTX department the GT didnt have this. Hope this helps.

-Proxy

I definitely think it will run fine when you get your new cpu. Half Life 2 is a very CPU Limited game. Tell me if you ever tried running it @ 1280x1024 on a different monitor.

I'm not certain that the OP's Antec Truecontrol 550 psu with 24 amps on the single 12 volt rail could run an Athlon X2 and a 7800 GTX.

It escapes me as to why 3dMark would work and not games at this point. Maybe it's a sound driver conflict, since 3dMark doesn't have sound and games do.

Sorry for being bitchy, icxnamjah.

no apology needed sometimes its hard to express what the problem is and sometimes words give off the wrong vibe and i did not mean to offend anyone. i apologize since it was my fault. i was going overboard but this was pissing me off and something i have never heard of. XFX was no use in helping with my problems too and just being assholes on the phone.

zinn answered your question of why i needed to swap PSU also because i want to go SLI with 2 gtx that are overclocked so i need more power.
