7800 GTX performance woes

Hi all, I'm new here. Straight up, I need some opinions on my GTX SLI performance.

So, my biggest grief atm is in Far Cry. I am aware that Far Cry has no support for SLI (performance-wise). But in outdoor areas like in the Training and Treehouse levels with plently of foliage poly count on-screen, my framerate can drop to as low as 17 FPS . Whilst with a single GTX performance is actually better: will not drop below 30 FPS. I've tried using both AFR & SFR, same story.

Otherwise:-

In the default Doom 3 timedemo (demo 1)- 1280*1024, Ultra Quality, 4xAA, Vsync ON: 57 FPS (second run).

3DMark05 score in sig, that's running w/ default Forceware settings: Quality, TSAA off.

Both of these results seem on-par with similar setups, but another gripe I have is with overclocking. Now, I do know that overclocking the G70 is rather different to OC'ing previous gen cores, take a look @ this article: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/video/g70-2.html. In short, I have tried setting the core clock to 458MHz and 485MHz, but in both cases my 3DMark05 score drops to around 9,600 (from around 10,100). Any suggestions here welcome, I'd replace the stock GPU/Video RAM chips' thermal paste/pads with AS5 and regular thermal paste respectively in an instant if I thought that overheating/throttling was an issue, but I don't think it is (idle @ 40-50C, 75-80C under load, a few C less for the secondary card as normal)... But like I say, any thoughts are welcome :).

Oh, and yes I've tried several driver sets: 77.77, 78.01, 78.04, 81.84...

Thanks.

EDIT: Just realised that this should be in the nVidia flavor section, sorry.

how are thr gigabytes designed? Does the fan exhaust the air emmediately through the pci slot? If not, get a pci exhaust fan unless you're wc'ing your gpu's. Your temps seem a bit high imo.

Nope, just the traditional HS/fan setup.

As far as general airflow in my case goes, I have the side panel off my case with a large floor fan blowing cool air inside.

I'll try to remember to reinstall farcry and doom3 tonight and check them out in SLI.

All I've been playing lately is BF2, CS:Source, DoD:Source, and Dragonshard, all of which work just peachy in SLI.

Dude your 3dmark scores seem kinda low, i got 12K without breaking a sweat with the 77.77s and get over 13K with the new 81.84s, also im running mine at 523/1350 when i run 3dmark as well, PM me and i can give you some help.
