I'm on a 2500k at 4.5ghz with 16gb ram. My poor old fw900 died a few years back so I've been gaming on a decent Samsung 245bw 1920x1200. I have a limit of $600. I don't plan on buying a new monitor until I rebuild my PC next year.

I play Overwatch mainly. But I do have a habit of buying AAA titles just to see what all the fuss is all about good or bad.

You can buy a 1080 for just a smidge less than 600.

Maybe at 600 if you consider tax.

Either get a 1080 for 500 or go over budget and get a 1080ti for 700.

Oh snap-a-doodle. Two #2s.

If you plan to stay at 1080p or upgrade to 1440p then go with a GTX 1080.
Actually you could go with a GTX1070 and save some cash, but that would be more like a sidegrade.

If you plan to do 4k then you have no other choice than a GTX1080Ti

GTX 1070 as a sidegrade from a GTX 780 Ti? That's a pretty weird way to look at it, given that a GTX 970 roughly equals a 780 Ti, and a GTX 1070 = custom AIB OC GTX 980 Ti.

A reference chart link: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1070/24.html

A stock GTX 1070 is almost twice as fast as a stock GTX 780 Ti/GTX 970, at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K.

I agree with the GTX 1080 Ti being the only serious option for a single card @ 4K, though.

My 780Ti died in December and I replaced it with a Gigabyte 1070 G1. It was an upgrade that was very noticeable.

I found another Gigabyte 1080 G1, dented box but sealed, sold by Amazon a few weeks back for $450.00. Came with Amazon's return policy and had zero issues. One little scratch on the back plate from the packaging. Has warranty when I registered it.

On the right under the price you will see the used & new button to see other options.

I would hunt for a 1070 or 1080 if the TI is not in your budget.

My 980ti seemed very close in many games to the 780tis that I was using beforehand. I'm sure that a GTX1070 would feel llike a nice upgrade.

I have 3x 980Tis up on the For Sale forum. Either that or a 1070 would be a good choice.

How so? The 980 Ti and 1070 basically trade blows with the 980 Ti being slightly faster, especially when both are balls to the wall overclocked. It came down to newer architecture and power draw why I ultimately chose the 1070 over the 980 Ti.

Im gaming on a regular 1080 with a 3570k and it drives my 34 ultra wide just fine. If your going to upgrade your monitor next year, im guessing your probably going to go at least 1440p and possibly high refresh rate. I wouldnt go less than a gtx 1080 in that case. Games are only going to get more demanding going forward.

I've got a thread in Hot Deals with multiple 1080's for 499 right now. Or an EVGA Hybrid for 567$.

(And mail me the 780 for shipping as thanks! ;-) )
