I am going to be building a new mini-ITX system for my girlfriend to replace her current collection of hand-me-down parts. She's currently using my old 4870X2 which is loud, hungry and probably overkill for the resolution she games at (1680x1050).

The power consumption figures on the 7770 look great but does it have enough oomph to run games such as Skyrim, CivV and the upcoming Borderlands2 well at 1680x1050? Or should I be looking at a 560Ti or 7850? I would like the card to remain competent for around 2 years.

I run a 5770 at 1600x1200 just fine.

Used to run them in Xfire but don't bother anymore.

If your thinking of going 1080p in the future, i'd wait for the 660 to come out and 7850 to drop.
But yeah the 7770 is just fine on 1680x1050.

Thanks guys. She's going to keep the same monitor for the forseeable future so I think the 7770 will do.

If you are patient in looking, the 7770 show up regularly on Newegg's open box program at around 7pm eastern daily. Can grab yourself one for about $100.

for just over 100 bucks its good card. my GTX560 SE is just a wee bit better overall and I play every game at 1920x1080 just fine. of course I don't run the highest settings and/or full AA for some games but that is to be expected.

if you aren't a person that cares about all the eye candy then its a great card for that resolution. if you do then you may want to look at the 7850 or 7870.

I would also go with 7770, i however really like sapphire xtreme 5830's. i just got a pair off ebay for $85 shipped each.

1120 stream processors
256bit ddr5

overclock like whoa ... but for an HTPC they are kinda big and require two 6 pin connectors each. i think you will be pretty happy with a 7770 for now.

Yes I would recommend the Sapphire Vapor X version of the 7770. A little more expensive, but worth it.

It is now, but will it be in one year +? he said it will be used (at least 2 years) why not get the 7850....its huge difference in performance.
because he seems to be looking for a very low power card. at 1680, I think he will do fine for quite while and he can always upgrade to a 9770 in two years.

oops I missed the part where he was considering the 7850 so yeah go with that for sure over the 7770 if you want to run demanding games on higher settings.
