Is Intel coming out with a new socket to replace the 775 or if this one is here to stay awhile ? A friend of mine wants to build a new system and asked me if it's worth waiting for a new socket. I did'nt follow Intel's progress in the last year and I Google a bit to find some information but to no avail.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

It will stay with us until Intel wil ship its Conroe 2 generation or if not that Nehalem generation with IMC...aka late 2007-2008 timeframe
 
Especially with the Intel D975XBX mobo on the streets. Intel stability plus OCing features? Who could say no?

Just a nitpick : LGA775 was designed to handle a FSB up to 1600MHz ( that's HyperTransport territory ) but sadly chips can't..:(

It looks like that only Woodcrest ( ok , that's LGA771 ) and probably Conroe XE will use 1333Mhz FSB , close to its potential full potential...
