7690M 1gb vs 2gb

Considering getting an HP dv7t, and just wanna get your guys' opinions on the gpu. Basically I'm getting it completely stock, just updating the hdd to the 7200rpm version, but I'm not sure about the gpu. For a $50 price increase I can get the same gpu, just with 2gb onboard rather than 1gb. Seeing as I plan at playing games at no higher than 1600x900, and probably mainly 1 at 1366x768, I just wanna see if you think it's worth the extra half a bill. I appreciate any input.
Also I'm in no huge rush to get a new computer so if you guys think there might be something around the corner I should wait for, by all means let me know.

No, it's probably not worth the extra vRAM. If you're looking to drive 2 monitors with that laptop then you could consider it, yea.

I would expect that the extra memory consumes more power.

If you use CUDA or OpenCL, more vRAM is a good thing.

Even in crossfire with APU, I can say I run out of Shader power before vram.

I'm going for a 6GB 7970 for my desktop upgrade, but I'd say 1GB is more than enough for a laptop (surprisingly).

go with the 1 gig, you'll be gpu bottlenecked long before the 1GB of vram becomes an issue.

Are the specs between both the same? Sometimes on mobile cards the 2GB ones will have different specs, like DDR3 vs GDDR5 or something, may be worth checking into.

I'm just not a fan of HPs lately, helped my buddy to get a custom laptop over a year ago - the famous dv5 series with 9600M GT 512Mb video, he spent 1580 on it and now it's worthless... he cannot sell it even for 350... They are famous for overheating and video burns out, there even was a lawsuit about it.
I would just prefer to go with other manufacturer, never had any problems with Dell or Lenovo.

He's lucky it's still working at all then with nvidia's cracking GPU fiasco at the time... I don't think that had much to do with HP directly though... every OEM which used nvidia suffered at the time, including apple.

As for the price, that is what happens to any electronics... that new $2,500 Sager laptop today won't be worth much in 5 years from now.

If you want more solid then business class laptops are the way to go, Lenovo or Toshiba Tecra, both of which I've owned for the length of their corporate leases are tough, but GPU wise they are not made to game on.
