I am wondering how noisy are the currently available (evga, xfx, ) 7600gt ?

There are people saying the fan is quite loud, some say it's actually not too bad

unfortunately I can't find any 7600gt using a heatpipe in stock, and I don't really want to wait much longer.

I would be ok with if the fan makes some noise during 3d games. However i would not like it if it is noticeable loud during playback of DVDs or recorded TV shows or even during normal non-gaming/video playback things.

Any feedback on this appreciated!

I have a EVGA 7600gt. overclocked to 630mhz gpu and 1600mhz ram.

When in windows or anything that isnt a 3d app the card is almost inaudible,, in a 3d app it steps up and really does make itself known, not quiet as bad as the FX 5900 i once had, but still loud.

If you're a true "noise nazi" like some people on Hardforum are, then you'll want to buy an aftermarket heatsink like the VF-700 CU or Arctic Cooling Silencer. Either one will cost ~$30, and it'll provide far better cooling along with completely silent operation.

thanks for the feedback!

noise nazi :) i never heard this before. No I am certainly not.... I wasn't aware you can buy an aftermarket fan for a graphic card ( I guess that's why it says noob next ot my handle)

weebob: does the fan step up if you watch a dvd or playback a movie file? that's what i usually do at night when everything else is quiet.

nope,,, sits there nice and quiet, I dont know about any other than the EVGA one though.

I would love to get another one,, but then Nvidia goes and stop non nforcers from using SLI's,, bastards.

thanks!
fair enough for me. i just ordered a evga from newegg! this should be a *nice* upgrade from my ati x300SE :)

more like a needed one,,, lets just say "your eyes are now open my son"

my evga 7600gt is very quite in 2d mode due to really slow spining, but it really starts screaming once 3d games kick in. I ll put on a vf700 soon, since it loads around 70C due to my crappy case airflow.
btw what is the lastest bios version for 7600gt, also is there anyway to check the manufacturing date of the card?

from Newegg (590gpu/1560 mem) and read where another user put a Zalman vf700 on it. I have the vf700 on my XFX 6600gt now, and will move it over, when I finish OCing the new system I just built (9NPA+Ultra w/Opty 165, SI-120 HS, Antec P150 case, Nexus Real Silent fans). Video card is $170 after rebate...what a deal! I like that the video board itself has an edge heatsink on it...does the evga? That was my second choice. I was able to OC my 6600gt (AGP) from 500 to 560 w/700 & AS5, no problems, and max temp is reported at 58C after 3+ hours of BF2 (but can only get med settings and good frame rates) , 51C idle. With stock fan only OCed to 520 and 70C!! The Zalman on low is totally silent and still cools far, far better than the stock cooler. Would be very nice if it was easily switchable. The XFX 9600gt cooler is very whiney, WAY too annoying to live with, so even if I only get 610 out of the 7600, I'll be happy

I havent really pushed the GPU on my EVGA 7600GT, got it too 630 with stock cooling, it will easily go higher with some after market loving.

i have the eVGA 7600GT. the stock fan is actually a pretty good cooler. BUT it is very loud. when running 3D apps, you can hear the fan's swooshing noise through the movie, music or game. UNLESS you play with headphones. when its on 2D mode, the fan is MUCH quieter, but for ME its still very audible cuz my CPU and Case fan are inaudible.

I installed a VF700 with dynamic fan control (though speedfan) and everything is quiet.. VERY VERY quiet. so quiet .. =]

It should fit but it all depends on how many pci slots you have and if you are using any of them. You will lose 1 pci slot and 1 pci-e slot if you go with these fans so put that in perspective. I will just put one of these on my top card if I do go SLI.

I just received the evga and replaced the ati x300. It is a whole new world!

The fan is quite annoying under load, so I will look into the VF700 and Artic Cooling Silencer.

Is one preferrable over the other?

weebob: Nice overclock!!

I just installed the artic silencer that i listed above and it's hella quite and at full load my gpu dosn't hit over 55c so this is one great cooler. Wish it had heatsink for the ram but the ram wasn't covered with the stock fan/heatsink so I guess it just needs air brushing it.
