720p to 1080p

hey quick question, im thinking about renting movies off xbox live because i have a 47" 1080p tv so my question is how will the 720p movies look on a 1080p screen?

Well, with the xbox movies, compared to blu-ray... the difference is astounding

There not that bad, yes there is a difference between them and a bluray but its not astounding. You can encode 720p at lowish bitrates (4-8Mbit) and still get a final encode which doesnt look that much difference from a bluray at 720p........I even made a thread about it a month or so ago, showing the differences at bitrates ranging from 300Kbit (youtube) to 10Mbit.

Yeah but he's right. The stuff you get off of Live is pretty low quality "HD" material.

He's not comparing it to Blu-ray. Plus we have no idea what he's comparing his 720p to. If he's comparing it to his satellite's 1080i, then 720p will look better.
