710T vs 172x

Alright first off the price difference doesnt matter, unless the two are so close, then i'll go for the cheaper 710T.

Which do you think is the best monitor. I'm a pretty big gamer, so ghosting is a no-no. But at the same time i want color richness as well.

Anyone have any ideas or comparisons? I'm having problems finding any reviews on 710T.
 
Im looking at the same two monitors myself Id be interested to know the difference as well.
 
well after browsing around for awhile i've come up with this.

this may or may not be wrong


172x = prettier silver nice looking
710t = not as pretty, slightly larger due to power being built in
710t = cheaper

172x has slightly fewer colors than 710t.
710t is brighter
both have same resolutions and 12ms.

from what i've heard the 710t is basically a newer version of the 172x. it seems like they may start phasing out the 172x and replace it with the 710t. both are great monitors, but the 710t has slight improvements.

my guess is that the 710t is cheaper due to the aestetical (sp?) value.


so right now i'm leaning towards the 710T.



ANYONE who has more info please help me out.
 
Both are nice monitors first off,
Since They are both from Samsung and they are both running on the same technology. Only difference between the 2 are these points which you might want to consider.

Brightness::
710T: Has a Brightness of 300 cd/m²
172S: Has a Brightness of 250 cd/m²
All that means is the 710 has 50 More candelas per square meter, or in other words about 12% brighter. It is a small difference, but If you have it next to each other, its obvious to the naked eye.

Contrast Ratio::
710T: 600:1
172S: 350:1

You all the the differences on that. basically the Brightest Darkest Ratio, the Higher the difference the more Vibrant the color gets. Tho, In this case, samsung has that new technology out dnie or something i don't remember, which controls saturation of colors so basically making it seem like a richer color and all that other goodness, LCD's are very good at lying a image may look perfect on the LCD, but it'll look like crap on a CRT, or a VFP print.

Response Time:
710T: 12ms
172S: 25ms
The time it takes 1 pixel to go to black to white to black, well it doesn't have to be White. but its just measures how long it take a pixel to be charged and discharged, Important for Gamers, as this is where the "Ghosting Happens" LCD TV's If you have it, and you can watch fast action movies with no problem, you probably have a 16ms response time. Of course 12 is better, but 25 isn't all that bad either.

And the last difference is Interface:
710T: Digital and Analogue
172S: Analogue Only

15 D-Sub? or DVI-D?

Here is what i think, I would probably get on the 710T because it is a better made monitor. Tho, I usually don't like to settle with LCD's since i work with prints and digital editing, LCD's are pretty bad at telling me the True Colors, also I've grown too used to dual displays, THO I'd jump on TWO 19 Inch LCDs both running 1600x1200 and thats Exactly what i have, Except they are CRT's :D There's my 2 cents, hope i helped you enough to decide.

That is a good comparison but he wanted to compare the 172x to the 710T. Both are TN+Film monitors, with 16.2 million colors with 12ms response time. The 710T is a little brighter and has a better contrast ratio where the 172x is more aesthetically pleasing. I have the 710T as do a few others here but I have not had much time to play around with it (I will have had more time next week though).

Please do!!! I was looking into a Samsung 172X, but if the 710T is perhaps a better model and significantly cheaper, I'd rather acquire that.

Are ya sure about that, Dave? I'm looking at Newegg right now and I see the 710T retail going for $469 and the 172X retail going for $542. That doesn't include the $18 shipping however.

I'm definitely thinking I will change my mind even more and purchase the 710T. It seems like a better value and for significantly less money!

I own a 710T and I've tested a 172X. Based on a solitaire test, the 710T has less ghosting than the 172X.

I highly recommend the 710T.
 
710T has much better color reproduction than the 172X. Colors blend a lot more on the 172x, the 710T is clearer and in my experiences produces a crisper image with better colors. I disagree with y0bailey's statement. One more plus for the 710T is Portrait mode, which is very fun and useful for viewing webpages and writing documents - just try it.
 
I've not gamed on a 172X, just experimented with some stuff. However, the 710T is absolutely stunning. UT2004 is unbelievably better than it is on other LCDs I've used (with 16, 20 and 25ms panels by various manufacturers). I cannot perceive any ghosting, but this varies from person to person. You will not be disappointed by the gaming performance.
 
I am running on a 172x, and from my experience it is quite excellent. The colors aren't as good as the 213t I had before, however there is absolutely no ghosting, even in CS and Halo (the two games I've tested so far). On the other hand, I had minor ghosting problems with the 213t, which bugged me to the point that I decided to downgrade to the 213t. However, the 172x looks damn sharp on my desk, with my silver eluminx keyboard and silver case, maybe I'll post some pics later.
 
Well I ordered a 710T from upgradesource.com and they are on back-order. Anyone know how long it normally takes them to get more?
 
fulfillment can oftentimes take days...depends on where they source their parts from.
i know i have them in stock. :-P

I want to get one of these soo bad(710T) but I'm not sure if i should wait until the end of summer to buy one, or just buy one now. How much of a price drop do you see this monitor taking before we reach the end of summer?
 
I doubt the 710T price will drop much, it's already pretty low for a Samsung.

Unless style is the most important factor, I think this is the best 17" LCD available.
 
LCDs have a very slow rate of depreciation...

I would estimate a 30 - 50 dollar drop.

The monitor was just released about a month ago, so I would agree; no less than 30 and probably not more than 50 (which, imo, is worth it to have this over a CRT).
 
I want to get one too but it only comes in black in Canada even though it is silver black on Samsung Canada. By the way American and Canadian versions look totally different. The one available in Canada is much better looking. Where can I get the Canadian version in silver in Canada ??
