What are you replacing/what do you have now?

What games do you want to play?

What else do you need to do with this new pc?

Antec slk3700 case and psu
Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard
512MB Corsair Value Select PC3200 RAM
2400+ Mobile processor overclocked to 3200+
Zalman CNPS7000 Al-Cu Heatsink
80GB 8MB Cache Hard Drive
GeForce 5900 or Radeon 9800 Pro Vid Card
whichever optical drive, keyboard, mouse you want

That'll run about $700

Go to Newegg and shop around and come back here once you've got the parts picked out

A decent setup to start with. You should shop around and find some parts you like and then post a list and people will comment on it and tell you whta to change or keep.
