OK, CHECK THIS OUT! I just got home from circuit city and just bought a 70" LCD flatscreen HDTV for myself. Very sweet 7000 bucks but its worth it. Im running my computer on it as well as movies, tv, etc. VERY SWEET. I beleive it has a good refresh rate as it is a tv.... never seen ghosting on it so far, and picture quality is simply amazing. (its the sony xbr 70")

Im getting my digital camera back in 2 weeks, ill take pix then, but then theres the problem of uploading pix as well

oh.. I thought it was a lcd, not lcd projection..... I was wondering why the price was so low... =)

wow.. 222 pounds..

can someone explain exactly how a Rear Projection LCD works? I mean, where are the LCD's? Is the image being projected onto the LCD's? How is that better? The screen itself is still flexible just like a standard projection. Also, I was told that lamps need to be replaced every 5000+/- hours at roughly $300 per lamp.

Similar concept to regular LCD projectors (you know those ones people use to display power point presentations onto screens etc).

Except this one projects from the rear onto the screen in front.

Cheers,

Mr. Pain

Yup. It's basically an LCD projector, mirrored, behind a projection screen.

I love my 61" HDTV... I've got to get around to making a HTPC for that thing :D

BLING BLING! i'd look into insurance for that baby. getting them fixed can be expensive! just stay away from retailer's "extended warrenties" though....just a rip off.

I may be wrong but I would fully read the extended warranty papers since I have read there is no extended warranty from places like Sears, CC, BB, etc that will cover lamp replacement. If it isnt in writing then call the store and double check with the MANAGER that the lamp is covered.

You wouldn't prefer it if you had your computer hooked up to it... Nothing like having the start button burned on to your multi-thousand dollar plasma!

quiksilverx181, take some pictures of your television or I'm not going to believe it. Try to get some of gaming on it, or just your desktop! I love that tv!

I don't believe there is any "burn-in" on plasma screens. That is something for rear-projection style televisions only.

pretty sure there is some "burn in" on plasma screens as well as rear projection.

Most plasma manufacturers developed anti-burn technology to stop such things from happening. But whatever.

There is burn prevention, but it will happen eventually. It's just the nature of plasma.

Back on topic though, that is a nice TV. A little too big for my taste. You must have a bigger living room than me. I went for the Panasonic PT-50LC13 50"

I've got a computer connected to my 42" plasma. Spent the past two days installing Linux, configuring X11, and setting up MythTV.

No burn-in on my multi-thousand-dollar plasma.

But keep trying! I'm sure someone will believe it eventually! :D

i thought "burn in" can happen on any screen of any type... all you need is the same image to sit there long enough.

That's why most plasmas only have 3 year warranties.

Most all display devices have 3 year warranties. As do almost all consumer electronics...if you're lucky. Many have 1 year warranties.

Your point is rather specious.

A nice read.

Indeed. Taking a few choice quotes from it:

Are you saying the problem is all gone now?

Provided you take proper care of your display (see below for suggestions), the risk will be minimized a great deal.

How much of a risk really is there then?

Very little from what's been reported by other members here, but as Nabsltd points out, this is a group of people who most likely have taken steps to avoid it.

But a lot of people have said they have it.

What most people have seen is "temporary image retention", like Ofer describes in the post linked above. There are times you will get faint residual image "hangover" resulting from things like keeping static DVD menus paused for servel minutes, or certain channel logos ("bugs") that can remain from seconds to sometimes minutes, and in extreme cases, maybe an hour or two. This is normal and will in most cases go away when watching other material for a while. A lot of displays have an "image reversal" function that can be used also to get rid of it. You just re-run the same material for the same amount of time with the negative image. It's pretty easy (and kinda trippy looking). I've never actually used it except for fun.

I've had my plasma since August of 03. I've left Madden 2k4 running on the ps2 for a half day at a time while I went to work or somewhere else. I've never had even a temporary image burn. Guess my Pioneer has some anti-burn or something.

I have bought it, now i sent it back to the warehouse to be held for 3 weeks since i am moving, but when i am in my new house aka. March 1. I will post pics somehow... (I dont have a host)
