7.1 Sound Not Working?

I am having trouble getting my 7.1 sound to work on my new computer. I am using a ABIT IP35 Pro with a built in Realtek HD Audio card, going to a Gigaworks S750. Currently, it seems my Right, Side Right, Side Left, and Rear Left channels don't want to work. They will ALL work if I plug the speaker into the center channel, so I know the problem is NOT the speakers themselves, or the wiring. The speakers are connected via a audio cable that has Front/Side/Rear going into the mobo, and Front/Side/Rear/Sub (it splits) going into the built in amp on the subwoofer. I really have no idea what could be causing this problem, except guessing maybe the amp on the system has somehow gone out? Other than that I think it could only be an output problem...

I've tried everything I can think of, so I came here for help. Anyone have any idea what could cause this?

Isn't there some Realtek software to control your speaker output and tell it to output 7.1 sound? DID YOU TRY THAT!?

I'm using Vista 64 bit.

I also went through the control panel and set up the device manager with 7.1 speakers. When I test through there, that is where the speakers are not working. You can click on each individual speaker and listen for a sound to be played. When I do that, the right, side right, side left, and rear left speakers do not play any sound.

I wouldn't think it would be something to do with 7.1 output, since I DO have rear sound on the right side. Plus, it's inconsistent.... front and side on the right and side and rear on the left? Very odd IMO.

Hmm, in the "Sound" options in the Vista control panel, click on properties for your speakers. Under one of the tabs there might be an enhancement called "Speaker Fill"; if so, enable it.

OK this problem is either related to the cable I'm using with my Gigaworks being bad or the Gigaworks itself being bad... I'm using it on a different computer with a different sound card and a different OS yet I'm having the exact same problem. I think I can safely say I won't ever buy Creative speakers again.

By default, only 2.1 sound will play. You need to go in your sound driver's software and set it up for 7.1.

Never had a Realtek onboard sound, but my nVidia Soundstorm and Creative X-Fi both worked like that.

They're both set up for 7.1. When using the Vista system, it had a place where you could click the speaker to play a sample tone, and that's when I noticed which speakers weren't working. I can't check like that in XP other than listening to music and paying attention to where it's coming from, but it seems the same speakers aren't working as before.

Holy thread revival.

I've pretty much given up on this one. I think the amp (built in to the sub) must be shot. I'm only getting two channels of sound, and the music distorts/lags a lot whenever the bass hits hard. The subwoofer doesn't seem to be having any problems though...
