7.07" x 5.3" (640x480) LCD display $11.00

Copy/Paste from their site:

Several people have contacted me regarding my project to get this item working. One thing everyone should be clear about is that this unit is not compatible with VGA or any other standard interface! There may be small cheap displays that work, but this isn't one of them. It's best used in a custom system with a microcontroller to run it. I've organized the material I've got online better than it was before; here's the new URL: http://www.nyx.net/~jpurbric/lcd

If you can wire that all up then you have the brains to get a job that would let you buy a nice Crystalfonz[sp] set :(

Not even close to a hot deal. Interface is fairly complicated, and the included datasheet sucks 10 different kinds of ass.

I briefly considered that $11 LCD for a carputer, but instead eBayed a Dynamix 706:

- 7 inch 800x480 color
- Touchscreen
- VGA + RCA
- IR Remote Control
- 400cd/m^2 brightness
- 12V Power

$210 shipped.

I like the Hami myself:

TV version $188: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HAMI...38650QQitemZ7995115337QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
non-TV $180: http://cgi.ebay.com/8-VGA-AV-4-3-TF...oryZ3698QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

- 8" lcd
- 800 x 600 native
- 300:1 contrast
- 25ms response
- vga + rca + coaxial + svideo

It's fully strippable, good for DIY projects, "may" need a 20pin/5mm FCC cable extension but it all depends on what you'll be doing with it. The extra pixels come in handy for 4:3 viewing but it's capable of 800x480 for 16:9 stuff. Not sure how the internal scaler would behave @ 16:9 but a PC would drive it just fine.

guess it's just my line of work, but it didn't look that complicated to me. Oh well, it's still a good deal, if you know how to wire it up.

I hear ya, but i look at it like this: 1) its airmailed from hong kong. 2) total cost, the total price is cheap for a "higher resolution" lilliput-style lcd.

People who have owned it always seem nicely surprised to boot, the Hami gets great feedback for a mini lcd.

It would probably take more than $200 worth of engineering time to interface the AllElec $11 LCD.. if you just want something that works, it makes more sense to eBay a VGA LCD.

I was looking for a <= 7 inch LCD + touchscreen for an in-dash truck install. The Dynamix 706 (assuming it arrives) will be driven by a custom Linux system providing nav + entertainment functionality.

For 11$ it aint a bad hobby, i mean i just ordered one 17$ shipped. i'm looking forward to gain some experiance from it. 17$ aint much. and hell it could be fun :) . thanks for the GREAT find.
