SWEEEEEET, how much is it expected to retail for? Still $600 even with 4gb of memory?
 
sooooo would it be safe to assume that Cayman is half that? It would confirm the 1920 shader rumors over the 1536 shader ones. If this is true, the 580 has some serious competition.
 
If they end up using a pair of downclocked HD6970 chips to meet the 300W maximum TDP then this is going to be a monstrous card with a monstrous MSRP. No way it is less than $599 and probably more like $699 with that much vram plus the inevitable premium component price gouge.
 
Yeah, I'm guessing demand will be sky-high unless the 595 is released at the same time to compete. I'd expect price gouging and about a $750.00 street price, if we're lucky.
 
Strictly speaking it's just 2GB. Misleading marketing. 2GB is much for regular games; a few might need it at 2560*1600, but not many. However, the story becomes different when you're talking Surround and Eyefinity setups. At that point it can come in handy.

Personally I'd have preferred if they also came out with a 1GB version though. Not really going to buy the card regardless, probably just settle for a 6970, but I'd be more inclined to buy it if I could save a few bucks in exchange for less vRAM.
 
2GB per GPU would be so nice for running games with high AA. I can picture the performance numbers now... :drool:
 
I've seen that exact picture a dozen times, and each time the numbers are different.
PhotoShop is a hell of a thing.
 
Holy shit. If those specs are true it should be nearly 2x faster than 5870. Not to mention the new tweaks applied to their rasterzed triangle setup. Say goodnight to GTX 580.

It's a dual GPU card.
That's like saying "the 5970 should be twice as fast as a 4870".

So? Who cares? It's NVIDIA's flagship card vs. AMD's. (When it hits.) People make too much of an issue out of the whole 2 GPU vs. 1 GPU thing. How they arrived at a given performance delta doesn't concern me. Only the results are important.

He seemed surprised that the next-gen dual card was going to be twice as fast as the old-gen single card. That's not really anything to "holy shit" about.

Also it looks like the 6970 is going to be in a fight with the GTX 580.
Obviously the 6990 is going to destroy the GTX 580, to the point where there in separate performance brackets. It's going to be the GTX 595 that we compare it to.
 
Think his point might have been that twice the speed of a 5870 isn't *that* impressive for a dual-GPU card, since it ideally would be twice the speed of the 6970.

Yeah and this is not a 580 killer, this will be a direct compete with teh 595 dual vs dual. Consumer = win. A card that now can run just about any game I have at a min of 60fps, and that is not average... the mins being above 60!!!!
 
What's the deal with the 595? Are we expecting 2x580 GPUs, or a lower version of that series?

If it's less than two GTX580 GPUs then I think it's going to have trouble keeping up with the 6990, unless the 6990 is heavily downlocked. ATI definitely seems to have upped their multi-GPU scaling with this series, and the 6970 does look as if it'll be slightly faster than the GTX580. Could be a wash though.

lot of debate. some are convinced that it will be two GF110. given the power issue I doubt it. What I think it will be is a pair of GF114 chips (non crippled GF104 chips) a non crippled fully clocked might perform around a pair of 6870 (maybe?) in the end no one knows yet, its all guess work
