I am two days away from purchase day and I am thorn.

Here is the platform I am building.

2600k
AsRock P67 Extreme6
G.Skill 8gb 2133
Antec 1200w HCP
Vertex 3 240gb
Corsair 800D
Lite-on blu-ray drive/burner

Water cooling Setup
Swiftech 3.120 and a 2.120
D5 655 pump
Swiftech Apogee XT cpu block
"insert apropriate gpu block"

I currently have a 1200p 27" screen.

Now I plan to get a 30" HP ZR30w later this year or to go with a 3x27" 1080p 120hz when we have seen offerings from Samsung.

3D isn't a must for me, I did like it when I tried it but I am not sure if i would be using it 24/7 when gaming.

I play mainly mmo's and FPS games suchs as TF2 and CS:S.

I hear the 6990 is a better overall performer? Hard to get good data with Watercooling in the equation. Everyone says the 590 is held back by the cooling.

What happens if you have a good WC solution. Can a 590 match a 580 SLI setup? If so, can the 6990 keep up with that?

I am just about to spend what took me 3 years to save up.. so I am worried about making a "huge mistake" to quote gob.

Help!

I personally would pick up a 6990 because you can add a 6970 for trifire. Its a value that is hard to match.

Well put it this way, have you heard anything really good about the 590, cuz I know I haven't, especially when compared to the 6990.

overall gtx 590 is better under 1920x1200 or under and 6990 outperforms after 1920x1200, so 6990 will benefit you better if you are going high resolution screens.

from various reviews, you will find 6990 runs much louder but if you are going watercooling it shouldn't matter much for you hence i would get 6990 if i were you.
