I'm kind of stuck. I am leaning towards the 7970, but I am not too sure. I will probably only be running one monitor for a bit after i finish the build. more monitors would be an after though. I also plan on watercooling this system. There is a 6990 for a great price with a block on it for the same price as the 7970 here on [H]. Should i jump on it for a single monitor setup? or wait to for the 7970 price to go down?

As far as what it will be used for, I will mostly be gaming. There will be some video editing done, but mostly gaming.

I'd go with the 7970 simply cause it's newer and uses less power even though the 6990 has more performance. But whichever one you pick, you will be getting top performance. Also, for whichever one you pick. You will be fine on multi-monitor set ups.

6990 may produce more fps but the 7970 will seem faster regardless. See microstutter for more details

single card for sure. 7970, just stick to reference design 7970 so waterblock options will be open for you
