You can't use a passive displayport dongle for HDMI, because you need a RAMDAC to provide a signal - use a DVI to HDMI adapter, or buy a proper active dongle.
 
I ended up having to buy two of these to set up my eyefinity. It's worked great thus far, so no complaints. My passive adapters that I originally bought for $5 or whatever were fine when I only used 2 monitors, however adding the third I needed the active adapter.

I'm surprised that you need an active for a 1080p TV, but so be it. If you can afford a 6990, it won't kill you to invest in an active adapter.

The Active part is there to provide a clock signal - if you're driving more than 2 displays, the third will not function unless you use an active adapter, because both the RAMDACs on the card are already being used.
