6970's overclocking?

Yes you can. I have a 6950 unlocked to 6970 that does 950/1450 (max OC in CCC).
However, I advise against it if you are using Crossfire since the overclock to performance ratio would be negligible.

ohh, ic, well i didnt know, i just thought id try to get max performance, but didnt know if would help vs the heat difference

There is literally no help. Like 1-3 fps max. I also backed down my 6950 overclock to 6970 stock speeds (880/1350). I was seeing no improvement in a single card setup also apart from some random 3dmarks lol.

I am cooled on water, and I cant seem to get anything stable past 950/1450 lol.

My full furmark load temps dont even exceed 55C. Its lame. Thought I would be able to push it alot further on water.

What are the rest of your system specs?
What power supply are you using?

overclocking GPU's is just not worth it. You get virtually nothing in return and a higher electricity bill.

Ya overclocking GPUs yield maybe a couple of % in FPS tops. Generally only for benchmarking, for gaming its not really worth it sad to say.

My HIS 6970 won't oc at all, I think it just gets too hot with the stock cooler. Even a 20 MHz oc on the core and it starts artifacting. Kinda disappointing, but that's the way it goes I guess.

What voltage are you running at?

What voltage are you running at? I can do 1000 core at 1.3v
