6970 vs 7950 3gb

Bottom line. For single card setups, 60" 1080p. Will the 7950 be better in all ways than a 6970? Ignoring price as we don't know for sure if the 6970 will drop at all, which of the 2 is better?
 
How can you even ask that about an unreleased/unannounced product? Better in all ways? I'll tell you one way it won't be better - price.
 
I think the 6970 will reign supreme in single card setups once the dust settles, 7 series seems badass, but overkill on just one monitor IMO

I'm not accusing you of this, but I'm really getting sick of people saying a single 7970 is overkill for 1080p. 1080p at 60Hz perhaps, but not 120Hz. Just because I only have 1 monitor doesn't mean I don't need 3GB (for AA) and insane speed (for 120hz fill rate). Getting all this without crossfire's quirks will be icing on the cake after I purchase mine on release day. Also, yes, it is worth it for ME to replace my 2 year old, 2 generations old, ~$700 (when purchased) video card with a $500-$600 one. Also so sick of people saying it's overpriced, then recommending someone 2 2Gb 6970s or 6950s. Basic math FTL.
 
People still use 2x69X0/GTX5X0 for 1080p, and it's worth it to them- why wouldn't a single 79X0 also be worth it?

I'm personally only using HD6950 2GB Crossfire for 1600p, but I'm also just trying to play BF3 MP, not max it out. I honestly think I'd need a pair of the HD7950 3GB cards to do that (which would be much cheaper, and faster, than GTX570 2.5GB or GTX580 3GB).
 
Yea I meant 60". Just habit to lost specs. It's 120hrz. I have no plan to use a multiple monitor setup. I in a way want overkill now in case in 2-3 years something comes along that demands higher performance, I'll be ready for it. Also adding a 2nd 7950 later on will be an option. Maybe they will drop a little when I want to add a second card.

I'm pretty set now on 1 7950. Hoping they will come out soon as I want to start playing some games I missed out on from not having a gaming PC for 2 years. Portal 2 omg.
 
I don't think any benchmarks have been released yet for the 7950. So it kinda is a pointless discussion till we can see something.

Just be aware that a 120Hz TV is not the same as a 120Hz monitor - the TV still only takes a 60Hz input, so you don't necessarily need a card that can do 120 fps at 1080p.
