6970 Eyefinity build questions

I am preparing to build a new rig for BF3. I will not be doing the actual build until later when BF3 is getting ready for release, but am trying to see what tech is available between now and then, and what will fit into my budget. Plus, I save up and buy not buy and credit card then pay it off over a few years pissing away money to interest. I want to start putting any additional funds into my new rig pot as soon as possible.

The good news is all I will need is a Sandy Bridge CPU, MB and video card. Everything else is transferring over to the new build, which means my budget is not being sapped too bad, especially when selling off the old gear.

I am fairly certain I will be changing my trusty 4870x2 out for a 6970. In doing so, I want to look at doing an eyefinity 3x1 setup.

This is where my question comes in: what type of monitors are needed for this? I only see 1 HDMI, 2 DP and 2 DVI outputs on the 6970.

I want as little need for adapters/converters/expanders as possible, and would prefer getting monitors I know can be hooked up directly to the video card. I am not looking to break the bank on monitors(i am an audiophile, and not a videophile), what kind of entry point would I be looking at to accomplish this goal? I would be looking at 23/24 inch monitors, with 1080p resolution.
 
It's not necessary, but you'll probably need a xfire setup to run BF3 in eyefinity. Ever consider getting a 2x 6950, then trying your luck at flashing them to 6970 specs? This is currently one of the most bang-for-your-buck solutions.

As for monitors; a single 23" 1080p will run you about $150ish. (These are of course, TN-panel monitors). Keep an eye out for deals for IPS panel ones which appear from time to time in the sub-$200 price range.

or a proper DP monitor. They don't cost anymore than any other decent monitor. The only reason to us an adapter is if you already have the monitors or are buying cheap monitors.

Check out something like a Dell P2310H or U2311H. Those aren't insanely expensive, they have DP on them, and they are both nice monitors with warranties that basically no other manufacturer can touch, three year advanced replacement.
 
Well, you can't run three native displayports even if you've got them as 6970s only have two displayport connectors, so that statement still stands.
 
You can run two DVI and one DP or two DP and one DVI. That doesn't require any adapters...
 
If you are epic like me you can just run 3 LCDs using bilateral multi-duplexed subtranslocated timed pairwise shockpoint fiber connectors and they work fine.
