Hello! This may or may not be the right place to post, but honestly I’m at the end of my wits, google seems to turn up nothing at all.
I have:
- Asus Crosshair IV Formula
- Phenom II x6 1090t
- 4 x 4GB of Mushkin Enhanced Silverline
- 4 x Mushkin Chronos 120GB in Raid0 with a 750GB Seagate for data, and a 2TB WD Green for local media (I have daily backups in case a drive in the raid goes down)
- 2 x XFX Radeon HD 6970 in crossfire
- Corsair HX1000 1kw PSU
- 3 x Acer p215h 21.5” Monitors
- 47” Vizio HDTV
- Windows 8 TP/Windows 8 CP/Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (All x64 obviously)
I do run the machine in eyefinity. The connections to the computer are: the HDTV connected through HDMI, the far right Acer screen run off DVI-D, and the middle and left Acer screens are run from the mini display ports on the radeon to dvi-d single link cables with the help of an adapter for a total of 4 screens.
So, here’s the issue: the two screens on the display ports (and ONLY the screens on the display ports) after so long (and seemingly at random) lose connection, then will flash all 4 screens a few times before they reconnect. It’s like they cycle on and off for up to a minute, then will come back on solid as if nothing happened.
Now, I’ve replaced the cables numerous times, and if I remove the display port monitors the machine is highly stable and never suffers display failure. I have run the machine for weeks at a time using two cards without the crossfire bridge, just using three DVI ports and the HDMI, and no problem. It’s just when the display ports are being used. When I switch the primary card and the secondary card the problem goes away for a bit then returns. I have switched out the power cables going to the video card, I’ve switched out the DVI Cables, I’ve switched out the mDP adapters (currently on a pair of MonoPrice Powered Active mDP to DVI adapter), I’ve switched out which monitor is on display port and which one is on DVI-D, and the problem occurs no matter what driver version I use. I made sure this time to go powered adapters instead of the non-powered ones I started with due to the monitors in question running in 1080p, and with a powered adapter I could go much higher than 1920x1200 from what I understand, so would/should rule out bandwidth issues. I switched the cords and the monitor at the same time to make sure that I wasn’t testing a good cord with a bad monitor or visa versa, switched about everything that I can think to switch, and no matter what the issue comes back.
As I said, I’m at the end of my wits, I’ve not come across this before in any of the work of done on client computers. What else can I say other than “HALP”
Edit: Also just noticed in the bios that my 3.3v was hovering at 2.94v, just pulled the PSU and found that the voltages are within .05V of specs on all rails and pins, so don't see it being a PSU issue. :/
