6950xt low fps in minecraft

I have a 6950xt that I acquired that I was hooking up and going to try it out in Minecraft. I use a 512 resource pack and then the SEUS PTGI shaders and it loves VRAM. On my 3090 it was using in the 18GB range and manages to pop out 40fps on 1440p

So anyway, I thought I'd give a 6950xt a whirl and see what I'd have to turn down. (I want to use my 3090 for an Ollama based RAG machine) I turned some settings down and got it to fit in the 16GB VRAM and was managing a whopping 18fps. But the GPU was only running at like 55-60%. From a rasterization standpoint, I was expecting a result similar to the 3090. So So I popped up the stats for all the threads on the 11700 I was using. None of them were pegged...maybe like 60% was the max.

Next thing I tried was shutting off all the textures and shaders. You know, where I should be getting like 1000fps or something stupid.......................60. I mean the 6950xt isn't breaking a sweat to get the 60, so that good I guess. I have the fps limiter on the windows display settings set at 144 and in minecraft at unlimited, so I'm not sure what is going on.

I can run like heaven or valley and make the gpu work like it is supposed to and it trades blows with the 3090 like one would expect.

I'm not as familiar with the AMD cards. Is there something in the adrenalin software I'm missing??

Same system the 3090 was in? Fresh Windows install?

I always recommend a fresh install when switching between AMD and Nvidia.

Different system...but the 11700 and 6950xt has everything fresh.

My 3090 is on a 5950x and is totally scarred and should be made fresh...but after like five years or funny little data bits as a daily driver...........well, everyone knows that drill.

ddu, then install the new 24.7.1 drivers. if your on 24.6.1 they seem to have issues in some configs. you DO NOT need to reinstall windows to change gpus....

I DDUed it and still didn't work. However, I found some weird little bug where you have to change the resolution in minecraft and then change it back. Weird stuff.

Depressing that 16gb is kinda marginal......I was thinking about a new GPU like a 4080S, but only 16gb is a bit of a no-go to be marginal.

ETA: When the thing is running, it is like a furnace.

I just got a new XFX Merc 319 6950xt and I have had problems with the performance. I have an ultrawide 3440x1440 144hz monitor, 750w Evga G3 PSU, I7 8700k, 32gb ram, 2 samsung ssd, 2 hdd. In games like overwatch 2 I get 10 fps when I enter the menu and 40 fps in game. After it while the framerate goes upto 200 fps on max settings. It is playable, but still lower than I expected.

Battlefield 5 on max settings I get between 65 and 80 fps with loads of microstutters. In RDR2 I got around 70 fps on max settings. In Sea of Thieves I get good fps, but loads of stuttering.

All in all most games have low fps (close to my old gtx 1080) and micro stutters. I have used DDU twice in safe mode and reinstalled drivers. I have tried most of the fixes suggested by reddit posts and YT videos. I don't know what to do anymore.
That’s probably pretty good considering the age and performance of that cpu.

if you're running afterburner and riva, try monitoring every thread's performance and look for once that are up over 80% or so...rule out a cpu bottleneck.

Your power supply is marginal for that GPU regarding transient power peaks. I recently had the same issue with a 750 watt EVGA power supply and a 6800XT I was testing/OCing on my open test bench. Replaced the PSU with a 1250 watt and the stutters were gone. You may be experiencing both a cpu bottle neck and a PSU issue. Modern gpus demand much more of PSU's than ever before so I don't use/recommend anything less than 1KW as it's best to have more than required to rule that out completely. Gamers Nexus transient power spikes causing issues that are difficult to diagnose.

Reports of issues running high textures in widowed mode. Full screen may help if that's your case.

Weird. The AMD cleanup utility is an option as well and sometimes succeeds where DDU fails to clean old settings.
