6950's Flashed in crossfire possible?

I have a water cooling setup. Trying it figure out if theres a way to flash both my cards already in my system set up as crossfire. I already flashed my primary one. Cant seem to find on forums someone flashing both in crossfire already. My whole setup is already done. I would have to dismantle everything all over again just to separate the card and go back on air for around 4 minutes.... I know winflash lets you choose cards but im getting the mismatch error.
 
You can flash both just fine with RBE and Winflash. In fact if you flash the second card first it actually brings up a dialog box and asks you to flash the first card too before you reboot.
 
yea i got them both now. Problem is im getting TOTAL computer freeze/crashes after 30 minutes playing BFBC2 or any games. Temps never exceed 55C on water on any of the gpu temps with the power control at 20%. anyone have any ideas. Running a corsair 1000W psu too.
 
What BIOS did you flash? If you flashed the 6970 BIOS then your cards might not be able to sustain the high memory clock. If you flashed a 6950 unlocked shaders BIOS then you need to stress test your cards to see if it'll even work properly. You could be crashing because the extra shaders were just plain broken and that die was binned.

As to flashing with both cards installed you just need to disable cfx in ccc then use winflash and choose adapter 1 and 0. I flash my cards all the time with both installed.
 
just flashed with just shader unlocked. ran a bit longer now. still froze up tho. running furmark now. see what happens over an hour span
 
another weird thing is in gpuz says 800 core clock and 1250 memory clock and when i stress it in furmant while running a background game it never breaks 500 core clock and 1250 memory clock
 
yea running furmark now with prime95 with a game open and its all fine. 800/1250 started when prime95 did. Might be a driver related issue. Might set both cards to 2 setting. play stock and see how it does.
 
3 x 6950->6970. Fastest Amd setup. Faster than 3x 6970s and 4 x 6970s

This is not weird, it is by design. Powertune throttles down the card to stay within the specified TDP. Which is why Furmark is now useless to test a card's stability unless you increase Powertune to 20%
 
Still total lockup in battlefield 2 at total stock settings in crossfire.....Driver issue? using most current drivers. Should i revert to like 10.12 or something? I know theres a forum on this lockup issue but i never had it before with my 5970 so i know its not my punkbuster or my gpu temps as im watching them threw gpu-z

You don't have to remove the 2nd card before flashing... just disable x-fire in CCC.

Flash them then you can re-enable x-fire again.

Only time I ever had freezing/lockups was when temps exceeded 100C which is not your problem. Sounds like a head scratcher. Try to benchmark with each card running solo to make sure its not hardware. Start from there although I know it my be a pain because of your loop config.
 
think im figuring it out. when i put the 20% power tune up it seems it does not run stable. I put the unlock shaders on again on both cards. I didn't put power tune up and i played games for a while. Went to sleep while looping furmark and prime with a game open for 7 hrs and it was fine when i woke up.
 
Still sounds like one or both of the cards isn't liking the shader unlock. I had Black Ops freeze on me following the shader unlock, but that was fixed by reinstalling the game. No other previously installed game has given me issues.

I would try givining the cores a little more voltage to see if you can attain stability. You should be able to increase powertune and not have your games crap out. Unless something's overheating

i have msi tool installed. how many V should i go to with just the shader unlock and stock speeds?. I tried again this morning with shader unlock only and 20% powertune. bsod after 24 minutes when running dx9 and reinstall of punkbuster. Cant seem to get this crap stable for crap!!! All my temps that gpu-z can report never exceeds 50C. Can there be something that it does not display that can bsod my pc or crash it running games?.

I have this same problem with my crossfired 6950s... ran kombuster for 4 hours with no problems, black ops no problems, any game except BFBC2 no problems.

BFBC2 = lockup randomly while playing.. sometimes immediately sometimes after a while. Sound stutters and can't even alt,cntrl,del to reboot machine. Push the reset button on my case to get it back up. No BSOD no auto-rebooting.

Running 6950 shader unlock bios on two HIS 6950 2b cards. If I turn off crossfire.. no issues.

Asus P8P67 WS motherboard
Gskill pc12800 2x4gb memory at stock speeds
2600k

Temps on video cards never go above 85C on load 98-99% usage over 4 straight hours of kombuster without a hitch. I was getting some lockups reboots when I first built the machine because my bclk was at 103 after setting to 100 only bfbc2 has been an issue.

With a single card, i am having the exact same problem. I just bought BFBC2 on steam yesterday and both times iv played MP it has locked up (exactly how you described) after 20 min of playing. Currently i have 11.3 drivers installed, my card is RBE unlocked to 6970 shaders. No other changes. I am running furmark now to see if after a while it locks up or not. If not i will update my Drivers, and try BC2 again, if it still locks up i will flash my card back to stock and try, if that fails too i am screwed lol.
 
Remember that if you are using MSI AFTERBURNER or ANY GPU monitoring program....it will freeze. Since the last bfbc2 update there has been a problem. If you shut down msi afterburner and run bfbc2 does it crash?

for me it freezes when i have it running, when i close it, i can play for hours.

Ok i will try this, i wasnt aware of that issue considering i just got the game for PC. Now i guess i gotta put it at 50% manual so it doesnt over heat as i game. (Btw i ran furmark for 30 min and had no freezes. I really think its unique to BC2)

UPDATE: Just played 2 full matches, 40 minutes total. Not ONE issue at all. I cant be 100% sure, but i really think thats the issue ( MSI Afterburner + BC2 = Crashes ). I just put my CCC fan control at 50% speed and played. Hopefully BC2 or MSI will release a update for either the game or program and it will fix this.

what kind of crossfire GPU usage was afterburner recording when enabled in game? Consistent 99%?
I have a trifire system and my GPU spikes all over the place sometimes it sits at 50-60% usage and frames go to crap (even with AB not running) :(

Wow totally happy I don't have this shitty game then. I have to run Afterburner to keep my fan profile. I refuse to let my card cook at 90C. I know what you all are going to say. It's rated for that. Bull shit. Do you even know how hot 90c is? One thing is for sure. Thermal paste doesn't hold up to that very long and the caps certainly don't like it one bit.

Lol no, what i would say is that you should just do what i do, put my fan on manual, set it to 50%, (or lower if you want) close afterburner, and play. Then when your done, open afterburner back up, turn on your auto fan profile and be good. My GPU never gets above 50C if i turn my fan on to 50% while playing.
 
I need to do this to mine tonight.. does anyone have a modified gigabyte bios link? I have 2 gigabyte cards that need to be flashed.. 6950 shaders unlocked and 6970 bios plz.

Wow, I am glad I found this. I was about to put my video card though the wall. First I thought it was my OC, then my 6950-->6970 unlock, then my cpu/mobo/ram OC, then I was filling out the RMA when I searched and found this. *facepalm*

Thank you SO much! I haven't had a single crash/lockup since turning off MSI Afterburner while in bfbc2.

Totally agree, exact same problem with my overclocked 6850's. They would run for hours stable in furmark but would crash out in BC2 until I disabled MSI AB. Boom, problems were gone.

You could do one of two things.

1) use ASUS SmartDoctor to alter the AMD CCC so you can OC the 6950s using CCC only. Only thing you loose is custom fan profiles that you can make in AB. I can play BC2 all night with no problems using this method.

I have triple Crossfire with flashed 6950s and use CCC to 880/1350 and run the fans at 55%.

OR

download Sapphire Trixx rev 4.0.1 and see if you have the same problem.
The next time i change drivers I'm going to try Trixx and see how that works.
Trixx does everything AB does and MAY be more stable in the games?
IDK I haven't tried it yet but alot of people really like it, more than AB.

I only use AB to monitor things like temps, useage and FPS if I'm curious about something.:cool:
 
I'll have to look into Trixx also then, let us know if it works for you.
