I game at 1900x1200 and the most intensive games I play are BF3 and Skyrim. Not sure what has hit more intensive than that of late though as I am currently deployed. So I have a 6950 2gb with the dual bios switch. Forget the brand. Was looking at upgrading to a 7950 but it looks like that may a bit over kill for my needs. Would a 7870 be a better purchase? I know not a very [H] question but games just arnt pushing the video cards at the moment and I ussualy upgrade once a year or two. Going to give the wife the 6950 as her 5770 is very long in the tooth. Appreciate the help!

Oh I am aware the new AMD cards will be hitting soon or the refresh so that is deffinatly an option for me.

A 7950 isn't overkill for BF3 at max settings. In fact I'd say the 7950 is the minimum if you want constant 60+fps on 64 player maps and everything turned up. But if you're happy with turning down the details/AA a bit there's not really a reason to upgrade from what you have currently.

Where did you hear this from? No refreshes coming from AMD in the near future afaik.

I have a XFX HD 6950 2GB running a 1080p monitor. I ran BF3 singleplayer at Ultra 2X MSAA. I don't play multiplayer though. I have maxed out every game I have played - COD MW3, Rage, Deus Ex, Alan Wake, Batman AC (DX9 version), Skyrim. I don't see why you would go for an upgrade. stick with this card till year end and get a HD 8950 or HD 8870 when it launches in Jan 2013. Those cards will be a significant upgrade and prices will be much better by then.

Thats not a bad idea either. Been toying with upgrading my entire rig anyways. Its a toss up as I have a i5 860 that has served me well but could be replaced easily enough.
