6950 Problem

I have had my monitor and TV hooked up to my 6950 for a few weeks now with no problems. Today, my second monitor came. Both of my monitors are running off of the DVI slots. Now, when I plug in the HDMI cable for my TV, the second monitor shuts off and only the TV works. Unplug the HDMI again and the monitor blinks back on.

What's going on?
 
We need to know what card you have. Some cards probably limit to the number of ports or certain ports that can be used at the same time.
 
You may have to run one of displays off of a displayport connection. A DVI and HDMI may be sharing a clock source and limiting to a max of 2 displays across those three connections. Or something like that. ;)

• To enable support for more than 2 monitors, “active” DisplayPort™ adapters/dongles are required (or monitors with direct DisplayPort™ connectivity must be used).
• Approved “active” adapters have no general connectivity restrictions with AMD Eyefinity technology.

For instance, on my HIS 6850, I have 2x Dell U2412M displays attached to the DVI connectors and 1x crApple Cinema Display 27" attached to the DisplayPort. No problems running all three at once. I just cannot do Single Large Surface (SLS) since they are all not the same resolution.
 
There are only 2 legacy DACs...additional monitors MUST be run off diplayport...
 
confirmed, only 2 RAMDAC per card, the HDMI port shares a RAMDAC with one of the DVIs

this is actually a pretty well known limitation of these otherwise fine cards

unfortunately you will need a monitor that supports DP natively or an active DP converter and they ain't cheap
