6950 overclock oddities

hey guys, first time poster, long time lurker! I've recently built a new machine with a ref 2gb 6950 card from HIS, and i wanted to share my experiences and also ask some questions!

System specs:
Core i5-2500k
ASUS P8P67 Rev3
HIS 2gb 6950 Ref board
OCZ Modular 600w PSU
1x 7200rpm HD
2x "green" WD HDs
1x Optical

Overclocked specs:
CPU: 44x100 voltage set to Auto
Ram: 1866 (underloaded at the moment)
Video: Unlocked to 1536 Shaders, 880core/1490 Mem, voltage locked at 1.1
Video Drivers: 11.5b
Fan profile: modified to run at a static 50%
MAX temps are 70 CPU, 70 GPU under full load.

Individually, all components test fine. IE, i have run prime95 by itself for 12 hours, and i have run Kombustor extreme burn in for 12 hours at overclocked settings. However, When i try to run both at the same time (Prime95 + Kombustor) i get a BSOD after about 3.5 hours which points toward atikmpag.sys. The stop code is 0x116
.

The stop code points toward the video card, but i have a hard time believing it because it has survived kombustor by itself. Heat does not appear to be an issue , and I get zero instability in games / apps. The system has never crashed except in this circumstance of max system load.

I am suspecting the power supply at this point, but I dont want to go RMA'ing equipment until I am perfectly sure. What do you guys think?

I have heard of stability issues with 11.5s and 11.4s, but i've not experienced anything until now.

I am up for the idea of a slight voltage increase on the 6950, but I most likely will not push it past 1.175 - 1.2 volts.

Try enabling max system ram in msconfig. It bought my card more time, and has something to do with the ram allocation of the large 2gb framebuffer.
 
Looking at MSCONFIG, both boxes are unchecked for max core / max CPU, so i assume that means it is not limiting itself in that regard


Edit: Forced 4core max and 8g gb limit, rebooted into windows to see it has reserved memory now (i can assume for the frame buffer).

Running p95+kombustor @ OC'ed levels again - noticed that my USB ports have turned off!

This is looking more and more like a power supply issue at extreme loads... What do ya'll say?

If you think it is a PSU problem, unplug all unnecessary drives and down clock your CPU to see if it solves your problem.
 
Kombustor/Furmark alone isn't a very good tool for stability testing. My 6950s passed 45min of Furmark at 1050MHz, but would produce some tiny artifacts in BC2. They would also outright BSOD when running 3D mark.

Now to test my GPUs I use OCCT GPU, Furmark, 3D Mark, and games. If I get no BSOD or no artifacts them I'm good.
 
My system survived OCCT: Power supply last night - im going to try OCCT GPU while im at work.
