6950 over a 6870

I've got a 6870. I can return it and get a XFX dual fan 6950 for about $30 more. Is the 6950 that much a better card than the 6870? This would be for BC2 and possible BF3 later...
 
I say if it's $30 go for it. Even if you don't unlock, there should be quite a bit of headroom for more performance since it defaults at 800/1250. I've reached over 1000/1500, and you can see in my sig I'm now running it 24/7 at its default clocks at the voltage it normally uses for video playback. :)
 
Is the 6950 the true replacement for the 5870?
 
You're best bet is to get a reference unit 2gb. That's what I did and it unlocked perfectly. However if you're really concerned about heat just get that dual fan one and overclock it and forget about the unlocking.

How much difference in terms of FPS in games does the shader unlock really give you? I am all for it, but I am running out of time to grab a few reference models.
 
Regarding scaling, if a pair of 6950s scales "perfectly" at 2560x1600, does that mean there will be no micro-stuttering? That's really all that's holding me back from just finishing a cfx setup. I'm terrified that I'll notice frame loss or stuttering in certain games.
