Is a pair of 6950s that are purportedly "as fast as a 6970" before shader a shader unlock capable of much higher FPS in games than a single gtx 580?

Now that the 6950 has been out long enough, some decently cooled models with factory overclocks are showing up. I was wondering if I could squeak by with some nice 6950s or if I would need to get two 6970 cards to see the increase. Thanks.

I suppose it depends at what resolution you intend to play at?

A pair of 6950's kick the sh*t out of everything I throw at them... they're great cards in x-fire.

Usually if x-fire won't work in a game then it's that old that one card is enough anyway.
