6950 graphical corruption: memory problem?

I get this weird pixelation along what seems to be a LOD line in Just Cause 2. I've highlighted an example. It's much more noticeable (and distracting) when moving. And there seem to be other areas that corrupt as well above that line here and there. I noticed it again, and much more spread out, in the Oasis map in Bad Company 2 along the river.

It looks almost like memory corruption, but I'm running stock, with a side fan blowing across the card. Also, anisotropic filtering optimization is disabled, so that shouldn't be it.

Any ideas? Anyone else experienced this?

I don't think memory corruption is that regular. Looks more like a run-of-the-mill glitch.

If it really is sitting on a MIP boundary, the texture filtering idea might warrant some more digging. Trilinear optimisation, maybe? (Not sure it's accessible though CCC, though). I think Catalyst AI has been known to fuck about with texture filtering behind the scenes, so that might be worth a try as well. How does it look with AF off altogether?

And this might be a long shot, but try turning off SSAO. I've seen SSAO shading turn up in weird places (like the sky...), and those blocks look about the right colour (like I said, long shot ;) ).

You're the man, LuminaryJanitor... SSAO is the problem.

Disabled SSAO = problem solved! Thanks!

Neato.

Does high / medium / low SSAO make any difference?

There's another SSAO option on the command line; not sure if it's tied to the in-game settings though. Try leaving it on High and adding "/ssao=1 /hbao=0" to your launch options.

Did the same fix work in BFBC2?

Any SSAO setting outside of off had the issue.

As for BC2... it helped, but I'm still seeing some occasional artifacting. And in Mafia II, there were omelets in the sky in one scene (I kid you not, pics soon) and flickering black polygons in another, and the smoke from grates flashed.
