6950 doesn't seem much better than 460?

It's been a while and I don't have the 460 any more.

However, I only get about 35-40fps with normal settings @ 1920x1080 in Metro 2033 on my 6950 with 1055T oc'd.

I'm pretty sure I had about the same with my 460 GTX 768mB.

Does the FPS rate sound correct for the settings? It may just be my mind is playing tricks.

Not sure on the medium detail issue. You should be seeing a clear improvement over the 460 though. Did you actually measure the frame rate on the 460? Are you certain the game hasn't changed the settings on detecting new graphics hardware? Most games do this nowadays.

6950 will be giving you at least a 50% performance increase over the 460 768mb. 35-40fps on DX9 High sounds about right.

My GTX 570 SLI gives me 25-35fps on Very High with DX 11 effects on...just to give you an idea how demanding the game really is. Performance varies wildly depending on the settings.

I didn't measure my 460, that's why I asked. I'm just pretty sure these are the settings I played at.

What 'should' my FPS be?

DX11, 1920x1080, "Normal" setting.

You probably have Advanced DOF turned on in the DX 11 setting. Your framerate sounds about right to me. Disable that setting if you want a massive gain to framerate. You may also have 4x MSAA turned on, which is a big performance hit over AAA.

Turn up the settings, what do the frames do?

Stay roughly the same? You're CPU limited.

A 3.4GHz 1055T definitely won't be limiting him in Metro 2033. In fact, a 3.0GHz dual-core is pretty much all the game needs.

You're playing it at "wrong" settings, as 6950 should handle the game almost maxed.

The problem is DX11 was bugged, and I dunno if they patched this.

Basically DX11 + Very High gives you blurry textures on Nvidia, and also on AMD, but only with AAA If I remember correctly.

I played at DX10 1920x1080, and on some parts I had to lower my settings to "High", but mostly "Very High" + AAA.

So you should be OK at "Very High" probably minus DoF.

It's not a bug. AAA only works on DX 11 (even though it still says AAA in DX9/DX10). AAA is basically a post-process filter which takes the rendered image, and tries to detect edges and apply anti-aliasing to them. The problem is, as it is simply a filter, edge detection isn't perfect and it does end up blurring everything a little bit. It's a solution similar to AMD's MLAA.

So again, in DX9/DX10, AAA does not do anything, period. It's basically AA - off.

Image blurriness in Metro 2033 I am talking about certainly is a bug. Textures on Very High are(dunno if they patched it) worse then on High. This was all around the web.

Man I don't even *like* the DoF effect - it focuses whatever is under my gunsight and unfocuses the rest of the screen, but I'm not always looking where my gun is pointed and the game can't determine that so I don't want it making everything out of focus just to be cool.

Completely agree, Noquarter. COD 4 MW did that. Hated it. Hate the game even more..

Like I said, that's a byproduct of AAA.

Are you reading what he said? With AAA on Very high looks worse then High. Why wouldn't High look worse? If you search, it is a known bug that may/may not have been addressed.
